About the Role This is a genuinely hands-on Azure role for someone who enjoys working across cloud infrastructure, security, identity, automation and Microsoft 365.

You’ll join the NSW Electoral Commission’s Technology Group and play an important part in designing, improving and supporting its hybrid cloud environment, while contributing to cloud migration, transformation and technology uplift initiatives.

Just as importantly, the organisation places a strong emphasis on culture and teamwork. Collaboration, customer focus, being solution-focused, transparency and responsiveness are central to how teams work together.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll work across a broad Microsoft Cloud environment, including:

- Designing and supporting secure Azure and hybrid cloud infrastructure
- Supporting cloud migration and transformation initiatives
- Managing Azure compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring and security
- Working with Azure Landing Zones and secure cloud architecture
- Managing Microsoft Entra ID, hybrid identity, Conditional Access, PIM, RBAC and MFA
- Using PowerShell, Bicep/ARM and Infrastructure as Code
- Working with Azure DevOps, CI/CD, Microsoft Sentinel, KQL and Log Analytics
- Supporting Microsoft 365, Intune and Defender technologies
- Identifying opportunities to improve automation, security, performance and cost efficiency

The role offers a good mix of project and operational work, giving you the opportunity to build and improve solutions while remaining technically close to the environment.

About you

We’re looking for an experienced Cloud Engineer with:

- Strong, recent and hands-on Microsoft Azure experience.
- You should be comfortable across Azure IaaS and PaaS, cloud networking and security, Infrastructure as Code, automation, identity management and Microsoft 365.
- Experience with technologies such as Azure Landing Zones, Azure Firewall,

Private Endpoints, ExpressRoute, Sentinel, KQL, Azure Arc, Entra ID, Intune, Defender and Azure DevOps will be particularly relevant.

This role is best suited to someone who is still technically hands-on. If your recent experience has mainly been cloud project management, architecture oversight or vendor management, this won’t be the right fit. Why join the NSW Electoral Commission?

The NSW Electoral Commission plays a critical role in supporting democracy across NSW, and its technology environment underpins the secure and reliable delivery of elections and electoral services.

You’ll be joining an organisation where technology has a clear purpose and where the reliability and security of the environment genuinely matter.

The NSW Electoral Commission’s culture is built around Integrity, Trust, Service and Accountability, supported by a solid focus on collaboration and practical problem solving.

You’ll also benefit from

- The security of an ongoing NSW Government position
- Hybrid working from the Commission’s Elizabeth Street, Sydney office
- Exposure to a broad and evolving Microsoft cloud environment
- A collaborative team where knowledge sharing and teamwork are valued
- The opportunity to contribute to cloud transformation rather than simply maintain an existing environment

Essential requirements

- Satisfactory Criminal Record check result.
- No affiliations with political parties, candidates, elected members, third-party campaigners, donors or registered lobbyists that could undermine the political impartiality of the Commission or that are otherwise inconsistent with its Political Neutrality Policy.
