Salary Range: Base Salary $72,621 per annum + super

About the Role:

Step into a rewarding leadership role where you'll lead a field-based team helping protect Townsville's environment from one of Australia's most invasive pests, the Yellow Crazy Ant.

As a Crew Leader, you'll oversee a small team of Ecology Technicians, providing day-to-day direction, support, and mentoring while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. Every day is different, with your team conducting surveys, monitoring, and treatment activities across a variety of environments, including bushland, farmland, residential areas, parks, industrial sites, and remote terrain.

You'll play a key role in coordinating field operations, engaging with property owners, tracking progress, and maintaining accurate records and reports. You'll also help develop your team's skills, foster a positive safety culture, and contribute to the success of an important environmental program.

To succeed in this role, you'll be confident leading people, working outdoors in wide-ranging conditions, and using field equipment such as GPS units, radios, tablets, backpack blowers, and monitoring tools.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

- Experience in applying Workplace Health and Safety in an operational environment, including prestart inspections and site audits.
- Experience operating computerised equipment (e.g. data loggers, GPS, etc.) including the use of MS Office Suite and business systems.
- Current Manual “C” Class license
- Construction Industry White Card (30215 QLD)




- Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to achieve effective solutions to challenges and adapting environments.

Desirable
- Certificate III Conservation and Land Management or similar qualification and experience in the supervision and leadership of staff.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to operate and lead others safely in remote environments. 4WD training highly regarded.
- Ability to safely operate and lead others in a range of light plant items, machinery and equipment associated with Yellow Crazy Ant management works.
- Effective organisational skills and ability to produce effective and efficient on-ground outcomes for identification, monitoring and management of Yellow Crazy Ants.
- First Aid/CPR Certificate
- Townsville City Council Authorised Person and Local Government Worker accreditation, or ability to obtain
