Data Analyst – Business Intelligence
Sydney | Hybrid | Permanent
We’re working with a leading global technology organisation that is investing heavily in its data and AI capabilities. They’re looking for a commercially minded Data Analyst to join their Business Intelligence team and play a key role in turning complex data into insights that genuinely influence business decisions.
This is an opportunity to join a team working across a highly diverse data environment, with exposure to modern data platforms, AI-enabled analytics and projects that have a direct impact on business performance.
The Opportunity
This isn't a role where you'll simply receive a set of requirements, build a dashboard and move on.
The business often comes to the Data team with a question or a problem that isn't clearly defined. You'll be responsible for understanding what they're really trying to achieve, interrogating the data, challenging assumptions and translating the problem into an analytical solution that delivers genuine business value.
You'll work closely with stakeholders across different areas of the organisation and become a trusted partner in helping them make better, data-driven decisions.
What You'll Be Working On
You'll work across a range of high-impact business and data initiatives, including:
- Revenue and financial analytics
- Business performance and customer analytics
- Cloud cost and commercial reporting
- Developing dashboards and reporting for key stakeholders
- Data analysis, forecasting and predictive modelling
- Turning complex business questions into actionable insights
- Identifying opportunities to improve data and reporting processes
- You'll have the opportunity to work with modern data technologies, including Databricks, while contributing to the organisation's growing use of AI and advanced analytics.
The Technology The organisation has built its data platform around Databricks, bringing together data from approximately 20–30 different source systems. You'll have exposure to a modern data environment where the team is also exploring how AI can be used to improve analytics, automate data pipelines and increase productivity.
You don't need to be a Databricks expert to be successful. Robust data fundamentals and the ability to learn new technologies are more important.
We're particularly interested in experience across:
- Strong SQL
- Data analysis and manipulation
- BI / data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau or QuickSight
- Python or R
- Databricks or other modern data platforms
- Forecasting / predictive modelling
- Data quality and governance
What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who can operate comfortably between technology and the business.
You'll ideally have:
- 5+ years' professional experience in Data Analytics, BI, Consulting, Commercial Analytics or a related discipline.
- Strong SQL and analytical capability.
- Experience working with large and complex datasets.
- Experience developing dashboards and reports using a modern BI platform.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to take ambiguous business requirements and turn them into clear, achievable deliverables.
- A naturally inquisitive mindset — you're someone who asks "what else?" rather than simply answering the initial question.
- Confidence to challenge stakeholders and negotiate priorities where necessary.
- The ability to explain complex data and insights to non-technical audiences.
- A pragmatic, delivery-focused approach to problem solving.
Your Background Doesn't Have to Be Traditional You could come from a traditional Data Analyst or BI background, but we're also interested in people who have developed their analytics capability through:
- Data or Analytics Consulting
- Commercial Analytics
- Financial / Revenue Analytics
- Business Intelligence
- Technology Consulting
- Financial Services
- SaaS / Technology
Experience with Databricks is a bonus, but we're much more interested in your analytical fundamentals, business acumen and ability to learn. Why Join?
This is an opportunity to join a team that is actively evolving how the organisation uses data.
You'll work with modern data technology, have exposure to AI-enabled analytics , and have the freedom to investigate problems and shape solutions rather than simply execute predefined requirements.
You'll also have genuine visibility across the wider organisation, working with stakeholders from multiple business units and contributing to projects that influence revenue, costs, performance and strategic decision-making.
The team operates with an agile, outcome-focused mindset. They're interested in what you deliver and the value you create, rather than unnecessary process or bureaucracy.
Interested?
If you're a Data Analyst who enjoys solving ambiguous problems, working closely with stakeholders and turning data into decisions, we'd love to hear from you.
