VTG Waste & Recycling is proud to be a leading provider of waste and recycling services across the Northern Territory. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a skilled, reliable and commercially minded Data Analyst to join our Finance team and support our Billing & Reporting functions.
This is an excellent chance for someone with a solid accounting or finance background who enjoys working with numbers, data and reporting, solving problems and finding ways to improve business processes.
As a Data Analyst, you will develop and maintain reports and dashboards, investigate data discrepancies, support billing assurance, monitor key performance indicators and work collaboratively with other departments to improve data quality and reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities
Data Integrity & Billing Assurance
- Monitor the accuracy, completeness and consistency of information recorded within business systems.
- Identify missing, duplicated, inaccurate or inconsistent operational and customer data.
- Investigate data discrepancies and work with relevant departments to determine and correct the source of errors.
- Conduct routine data validation and reconciliation activities.
- Assist with maintaining appropriate data standards and controls.
- Support the Billing & Reporting team in ensuring services delivered are accurately captured and billed.
- Reconcile operational service data against billing information.
- Investigate billing anomalies, credits, adjustments and other exceptions.
- Assist with validation of customer pricing, service information and billing rules.
- Analyse recurring billing errors and identify underlying process or system causes.
- Support month-end billing validation and reconciliation processes.
- Assist in improving controls designed to minimise revenue leakage and billing errors.
Data Analysis & Intelligence Reporting
- Analyse operational, customer,
service and financial data to identify trends, anomalies and performance issues.
- Prepare regular management and operational reports.
- Develop and maintain user-friendly management dashboards.
- Work with report users to understand information requirements and develop appropriate reporting solutions.
- Continuously improve the accessibility and usefulness of business information.
- Analyse performance across customers, contracts, service types and operational activities.
- Investigate significant variances and provide clear explanations of findings.
- Respond to ad hoc data and reporting requests from management and other departments.
- Present complex information in a clear and practical format for non-technical stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to automate or streamline recurring reports.
Process Improvement
- Review data capture, reporting and billing processes to identify inefficiencies.
- Recommend practical improvements to reduce manual handling and duplication.
- Assist with standardising reporting and data-management processes.
- Develop templates, tools and reporting solutions to improve efficiency.
- Assist with testing changes to systems, reports or processes where required.
- Monitor implemented improvements to confirm they are achieving the intended outcome.
Team Support
- Provide backup support across key team functions when required.
- Participate in cross-training activities to build broader team capability.
- Assist in maintaining business continuity during periods of leave or increased workload.
About You We are looking for someone who is reliable, analytical, organised and commercially minded, with strong attention to detail and an interest in using data to improve business processes.
Ideally, you will have:
- A background in accounting, finance or a related discipline.
- Practical understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including working with large and complex datasets.
- Experience using Power BI, Power Query or similar business intelligence tools.
- Demonstrated experience analysing, validating and reconciling data.
- Experience developing operational or management reports.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with different areas of the business.
- A proactive approach and willingness to learn new systems and processes.
- The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a team environment.
- Experience in billing assurance, revenue analysis or financial reconciliation.
- Experience within waste and recycling, transport, logistics, utilities, industrial services or another operationally intensive industry.
- Tertiary qualification in Data Analytics, Business, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Information Systems or a related discipline.
