Brisbane City

A genuine chance to lead HR, influence a national business and build what comes next.

Some HR roles are about maintaining what’s already there.

This isn't one of them.

We're looking for an experienced HR Lead who wants the opportunity to genuinely influence how a growing national business develops its people, builds its leaders and approaches the future of HR.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director , you'll lead the HR function for a business of 350+ employees across 80+ stores nationally , working closely with our Department Heads and particularly our National Retail Sales Manager, with retail representing the largest part of our workforce.

You'll have a voice. You'll have access to the people making the decisions. And you'll have genuine scope to challenge, improve, implement and lead change.

About Us

PTC Phone Tech & Comm is a proudly Australian, family-owned business that has been growing since 2009.

Today, we have 80+ stores across Australia and more than 350 team members , operating in a fast-moving retail and technology environment.

Our values – Trust, Sincerity, Simplicity, Teamwork and Challenge – influence how we work, how we lead and how we treat our people.

We're serious about performance and accountability, but we're equally serious about creating a workplace where people can enjoy coming to work, have a laugh, develop their careers and feel supported by the people around them.

We're continuing to grow and evolve, and we're looking for an HR Lead who wants to help shape what comes next.

The Opportunity

This is a broad, influential and genuinely hands-on HR leadership role.

You'll work closely with the Managing Director and Department Heads across the business, providing practical people leadership while helping us continue to develop our longer-term people strategy.

You'll have a particularly close partnership with our National Retail Sales Manager and retail leadership team, supporting the largest people component of our business.

You'll coach leaders, develop future talent, oversee succession and capability, navigate complex ER and IR matters, strengthen compliance, improve performance and help our leaders become better people leaders.

And while you'll be based at Head Office, we don't want HR disconnected from the people it supports.

You'll occasionally get out into our stores, spending time with Store Leaders and teams, understanding what it's actually like on the frontline, building relationships and seeing firsthand where HR can better support, coach and develop our people.

What You'll Own

There's plenty of variety.

You'll take the lead across areas including:

- Leading, supporting and developing the HR team
- Acting as a trusted people partner to the Managing Director and Department Heads
- Partnering closely with the National Retail Sales Manager on people capability and performance across our national retail network
- Coaching and developing Area Managers, Store Leaders and Department Leaders
- Driving talent mapping, succession planning and internal progression
- Identifying high-potential employees and helping create meaningful development pathways
- Building stronger leadership capability across the business
- Supporting workforce planning and future organisational capability
- Providing practical, commercially balanced HR advice
- Managing employee relations and industrial relations matters
- Navigating Fair Work matters, Modern Awards and employment obligations
- Conducting disciplinary, performance, grievance and other formal employee meetings
- Developing and overseeing Success Improvement Plans (SIPs/PIPs)
- Managing complex conduct and performance matters
- Supporting workplace investigations, complaints and grievances
- Strengthening HR compliance, documentation and processes

- Using people and performance data to identify trends, risks and opportunities
- Working collaboratively with recruitment to continually improve the quality of our hires
- Helping leaders address poor performance early, fairly and effectively
- Measuring whether our people initiatives are actually making a difference

You won't be expected to personally do everything.

Part of leading the function is knowing how to prioritise, delegate, develop your team and build capability in the leaders around you.

A Big Part of This Role: AI

AI capability is a must for this role.

We're not looking for someone who simply uses AI occasionally to rewrite an email.

We want someone who is genuinely interested in how AI, automation, workflows and better use of data can transform the way HR operates.

You'll have the opportunity – and expectation – to identify, implement and continually improve how we use AI across areas such as:

- Recruitment and candidate assessment
- Talent mapping and succession planning
- Learning and development
- Leadership coaching and support
- Performance and productivity insights
- HR reporting and workforce analytics
- Compliance monitoring
- Employee lifecycle processes
- Identifying emerging people trends and risks
- Reducing repetitive HR administration
- Creating better tools and resources for leaders
- Improving the speed, consistency and quality of HR decision-making

You also help the HR team and our broader leaders build their own capability and confidence with AI.

You don't need to be a developer.

But you do need to be confident with AI, curious about what it can do, willing to experiment and capable of turning ideas into practical solutions.

If your response to AI is "that's not really my thing", this probably isn't the role for you.

If your response is "I wonder how we could use that to do this better?", ...

we should probably talk.

Who We're Looking For

Your HR knowledge matters.

Who you are as a person matters just as much.

You're approachable.

Our people should feel comfortable walking to your desk, picking up the phone or asking for help.

You're genuinely good with people.

You enjoy building relationships and can connect just as comfortably with a new retail team member as you can with the Managing Director.

You can bring people with you rather than relying on a title to make things happen.

You're adaptable.

We're a growing retail business. Things move quickly, priorities change and sometimes the plan you started the morning with isn't the plan you're working to by lunchtime.

That doesn't throw you.

You're commercially minded.

You understand HR isn't there simply to tell the business what it can't do.

You can assess risk, understand the commercial reality and help find the right way forward.

You're confident when it matters.

You can conduct a difficult meeting, challenge a leader, manage an IR issue or hold someone accountable while remaining fair, professional and human.

This is important.

We don't want our leaders dependent on HR to solve every people problem for them.

You'll coach them, challenge them and help build their confidence and capability so they become better leaders themselves.

You're fair and balanced.

You can genuinely support our people while also protecting the standards, expectations and interests of the business.

And you have a great sense of humour.

Yes, we're putting that in the job ad.

HR deals with some serious and challenging situations, but we also work with some great people.

We want someone who can take their responsibilities seriously without taking themselves too seriously.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone with:

- Strong generalist HR experience and the confidence to operate at a senior HR leadership level
- Experience partnering with senior executives and operational leaders
- Demonstrated employee relations and industrial relations capability
- Strong working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards and Australian employment obligations
- Confidence conducting formal employee meetings, investigations and performance processes
- Experience developing and managing SIPs/PIPs and performance improvement processes
- Strong coaching and leadership-development capability
- Experience with talent management, succession planning and workforce planning
- The ability to navigate sensitive and complex people matters with sound judgement
- Strong communication and relationship-building skillsConfidence working with people, performance and workforce data
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment
- A practical, commercially balanced approach to HR
- Strong AI capability and a genuine appetite to implement and integrate AI into HR
- Experience within retail, multi-site or another fast-paced operational environment would be highly regarded

Most importantly, you'll know how to connect with people while maintaining a high standard.

Why PTC?

Because this is an opportunity to do more than maintain an HR function.

You'll report directly to the Managing Director and work alongside the leaders responsible for running the business.

You'll have the opportunity to influence:

- How we identify our future talent.
- How our people progress through the business.
- How we improve performance and accountability.
- How we use AI, automation and data.
- How we support our people.
- And ultimately, what our people function looks like as PTC continues to grow.

You'll be close enough to the business to see the impact of what you implement – whether that's a Store Leader you've helped develop, a future leader you've identified, an HR process you've transformed or a better way of working you've introduced.

You'll have permission to bring ideas, challenge the way things are done and make things better.

We’re not looking for someone who simply wants to maintain HR.

We want someone who wants to lead it, evolve it and make a genuine impact.

If you're an HR leader who loves people, enjoys a challenge, embraces technology, can have the tough conversations when they're needed and gets genuine satisfaction from seeing other people develop and succeed…

we'd love to hear from you.
