We are seeking an experienced and influential leadership professional to lead our Fraud and Criminal Behaviours business line.
As the Deputy Commissioner, Fraud and Criminal Behaviours, you will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of the Compliance and Engagement Group, the ATO and the APS more broadly. Leading in a highly sensitive and complex environment, you will foster a culture of integrity, professionalism, innovation and inclusion, while guiding a highly skilled and specialist workforce.
You will lead the ATO's response to external fraud and financial crime, protecting the integrity of Australia's tax, superannuation and registry systems. Working across the ATO, government and international jurisdictions, you will leverage strategic partnerships to identify emerging threats, strengthen intelligence capabilities and coordinate effective responses to serious and organised criminal activity.
You will drive the ongoing evolution of the ATO's counter-fraud capabilities through the adoption of advanced digital technologies, real-time intelligence and intelligence-led approaches. Through this work, you will strengthen the organisation's ability to prevent, detect and respond to fraud, support taxpayers to protect themselves, and ensure credible and visible consequences for those who seek to undermine public trust in Australia's revenue and registry systems.
You will build trusted relationships and collaborate across the ATO, government and external partners to deliver organisational outcomes and government priorities. As a member of the ATO's senior leadership cohort, you will provide strategic and people leadership in an increasingly complex operating setting, strengthening organisational capability and culture while helping shape the future direction of the ATO.
We embrace the strength of diversity – through our people and the perspectives they bring. We are committed to inclusive recruitment practices and encourage applications from people with disability or neurodivergence, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and individuals from all backgrounds. Reasonable adjustments can be provided throughout the recruitment process.
All of our senior leaders are expected to:
- develop a clear vision for the future that links to ATO and government priorities
- be accountable and deliver outcomes that align with the long-term perspective
- find innovative and practical solutions, be open to ideas and engage with risk
- work collaboratively and influence across boundaries to achieve outcomes, progressing issues that cut across APS agencies, sectors and communities
- persuade others towards an outcome, maintaining the confidence of government and stakeholders
- be self-aware and courageous, empowering individuals and teams to deliver their best
- build trust and confidence in the ATO and the tax and superannuation systems.
To be considered you must also have:
- demonstrated knowledge and leadership across a range of enforcement, compliance and legislative frameworks
- investigations, compliance and enforcement experience and the capability to apply intelligence informed decisions when working with partner agencies across a broader continuum to deliver effective compliance outcomes
- a strong record in working with peer level stakeholders to achieve mutually successful outcomes and long term trusted relationships
- experience in working with law enforcement agencies across government and/or internationally.
People with disability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply.
