Disability Support Worker | High Intensity | Algester (Casual)

Algester and surrounding southern suburbs. Casual, with shifts across the full week including evenings, weekends and overnights.

$45.28 an hour, plus penalties, superannuation and kilometres.

We would rather tell you what this job actually involves than tell you it is rewarding.

You would be joining a small team supporting one person who is moving out of residential aged care and into their own home. That move is the whole point of the job. It only works if the support around them is consistent, unhurried and clinically switched on.

The support is genuinely complex. It includes personal care and showering, medication assistance and monitoring, mobility and transfers with a falls risk, respiratory support including oxygen, and seizure management. It also includes cooking, laundry, cleaning and getting out into the community, because the ordinary parts of the day matter as much as the clinical ones.

You will need to notice things. Changes in breathing, alertness, appetite or steadiness are the early signals, and knowing when to escalate matters more here than in most support roles.

You will usually be the only worker on shift, so you need your own reliable car and an open licence.

This is a 24 hour program, so there are morning, evening, weekend and overnight shifts, and the overnights include a sleepover. There are real hours here, not two hour shifts scattered across a fortnight.

What you need

● A current NDIS Worker Screening Check

● An open Australian driver licence and a reliable, comprehensive insured car

● Current First Aid and CPR

● Experience supporting someone with complex health needs

● Comfort working alongside nurses and allied health, and following a clinical plan properly

What helps but is not essential

● Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability or Aged Care

● Experience with oxygen therapy, seizure management or dementia support

● Experience in supported independent living or 24 hour support environments

● Nursing and allied health students are welcome and we roster around study

What is different about working here

Our clinical governance sits with a registered nurse. She writes the plans, she trains the team, and she assesses you on shift rather than in a classroom. You will not be sent in cold, and there is always someone clinical to call when something changes.

Our rostering team works seven days a week from 7am to 7pm and a person answers. If you ring about a shift you speak to a human being.

We build small consistent teams around each participant, because that is the only way complex support is secure. You will get to know the person you support properly instead of being a different face every week.

We are a specialist high intensity provider. We take the referrals other providers turn down, and we train people into that work rather than expecting them to arrive knowing it.

To apply

Hit apply and answer the four screening questions. We are reviewing applications as they arrive and phoning people this week.

Alya is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, and people of all backgrounds and identities.

Pay: $45.28 per hour

Work Location: In person
