Education Officer - Learning, Tours and Visitor Programs

Do you have experience developing and delivering curriculum-linked learning programs, coordinating group visits, supporting volunteers and sharing local history with schools, community groups and the wider public? If so, we would like to hear from you.

We are offering a part-time, fixed-term opportunity based at Judy Hamersley House, 119 Swan Street, Guildford, with work across the Guildford Historical Precinct and occasional offsite engagement as required. The role is expected to be approximately 15.2 hours per week, with days and times to be agreed. Remuneration will be negotiated having regard to the successful applicant’s skills, experience and qualifications, and will be consistent with the applicable award and employment conditions.

About the Swan Guildford Historical Society Inc

Located in Guildford, Western Australia, the Swan Guildford Historical Society Inc (ABN: 21 682 992 811) (the Society) is an incorporated association and registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).

The Society’s objectives and purpose are to collect, conserve, research, interpret and display items relating to the early history in Guildford and the Swan Valley region, and its role in the development of Western Australia.

The Society is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history of Guildford and the Swan Valley region in Western Australia. The Society and its Volunteers achieve this by maintaining a significant collection and historical museum precinct to interpret the history of people and places around Guildford, and the Swan Valley region.

The Society promotes public interest in its collection and preserves historical records, including artefacts, costumes, documents, images and also buildings and sites.

The Society is an accredited member of the Tourism Council WA and a Sustainable Tourism Accredited Business.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate, organised and delivery-focused Education Officer to lead the development, coordination, delivery and promotion of the Society’s education program and related tour and visitor learning activities.

Reporting to the President and working collaboratively with the Society’s Committee, Curator, Volunteers and external stakeholders, the Education Officer will provide efficient and effective education, visitor engagement and group tour services for the Swan Guildford Historical Society Inc.

The role will develop and deliver curriculum-linked programs for schools and, where appropriate, broader education, community and visitor audiences.



It will coordinate education program and tour bookings; act as the principal contact for teachers, education organisations and group organisers; maintain learning and visitor resources; train and support education volunteers; and contribute to monthly and quarterly reporting on participation, visitation and program outcomes.

About You

We are looking for a dynamic, organised and self-motivated person who enjoys working with children, young people, adults, teachers, volunteers, community organisations and visitors, and who can translate local history into engaging, inclusive and memorable experiences.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

- Promote education programs and related tour activities to schools, teachers, education networks, community organisations, local history groups and the wider public.
- Act as the primary contact for teachers, education organisations, group organisers and community partners, providing explicit information and professional customer service from enquiry through to post-visit follow-up.
- Manage and administer program bookings, including scheduling, volunteer liaison, group requirements, resources, visitor information and basic participation records.
- Maintain and develop learning, tour and visitor resources for the Society’s website, online presence, museum projects, displays, school visits, children’s activities and public programs.
- Develop, coordinate and deliver the Society’s education program and related learning activities for school groups, community groups, special interest groups, families, visitors and the general public.
- Develop curriculum-linked learning experiences and resources that support the National History Curriculum and can be adapted for different year levels, visitor needs and group interests.
- Train and support volunteers to assist with learning programs, public programs and tours, and contribute to volunteer recruitment where required.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly reports including school, community group, visitor and tour participation data.
- Work with tourism and marketing partners to develop and promote tour and public program products where required.

- A statement of experience of no more than two (2) A4 pages addressing the following essential work-related requirements:

Experience developing, coordinating or delivering education, learning, public programs or community engagement activities, preferably in a museum, heritage, education or community setting.
2. Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage primary students, secondary students, teachers, volunteers, community groups, visitors and partner organisations.
3. Demonstrated ability to manage bookings, schedules, resources, group requirements, reporting and competing priorities with a high level of organisation and attention to detail.
4. Relevant qualifications in education, history, museum studies, tourism, arts, heritage, community engagement or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
