1. Position Overview The Electrician is responsible for providing high-quality, safe and compliant electrical services across Mabunji properties, community housing and remote homeland locations. This role includes maintenance, repairs, installations, inspections, essential services support, compliance with NT legislation and Homelands Program requirements, and acting as the Nominated Person for Mabunji’s Electrical Contractor Licence.
2. Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance & Repairs: Routine and responsive maintenance, fault-finding, AS/NZS 3000 compliance.
Essential Services: Generator, solar/hybrid systems, and distribution maintenance. Respond to life-threatening issues within 48 hours.
Installations: Install electrical infrastructure, complete testing and certification.
Preventative Maintenance: Scheduled inspections, risk identification, maintenance planning.
Documentation: Maintain records, certificates and compliance documents.
Communication: Respectful engagement with community and staff.
Tools & Safety: Maintain tools, ensure safe worksites and WHS compliance.
3. Qualifications, Licences & Experience
Mandatory:
- Current NT Unrestricted Electrical Worker Licence.
- Held unrestricted licence for minimum 2 years.
- Completed approved contractor course units (e.g. UEEEL0040, UEEEL0002) or previously acted as Nominated Person.
- Eligibility to be appointed as Nominated Person for Contractor Licence.

Highly Desirable:
- Refrigeration/Air-Conditioning licence.
- Experience with generators and off-grid systems.
- Remote community experience.
4. Contractor Nominated Person Responsibilities
Legislative Compliance: Ensure compliance with Electrical Workers and Contractors Act, Regulations, WHS Act, and Australian Standards.
Supervision:
Ensure only licensed workers perform electrical work; supervise apprentices or Trade Assistant.
Records: Maintain compliance records, test sheets and certificates.
Notification: Notify NT WorkSafe of relevant incidents, licence changes and nomination requirements.
Limitations: Cannot be nominated for more than one licence simultaneously.
5. Work Health & Safety Responsibilities
General WHS: Take reasonable care, follow WHS procedures, use PPE.
Electrical Safety: Lock-out/tag-out, isolation, testing before work, maintain tool safety.
Remote Safety: Travel planning, communication equipment, hydration and environmental safety.
Incident Reporting: Report hazards, incidents and near-misses immediately.
6. Performance Criteria
Technical Competence: High-quality workmanship, standards compliance.
Compliance: Completed documentation and reporting.
Timeliness: Meets required timeframes including urgent response.
Safety: Identifies hazards, follows WHS requirements.
Conduct: Maintains professionalism and respectful communication.
7. Additional Requirements
- Criminal History Check or willingness to obtain
- Travel to remote homelands; possible overnight stays.
- Participation in on-call work if required.
- Compliance with all Mabunji policies and procedures.
