We are looking for a mid-level or senior Embedded Systems Engineer to join a great product development client of ours, with experience across a range of industries, including health-tech and IoT.
This role involves significant hands-on technical contribution to complex projects, from concept to final product, while also providing critical design and development insights. Because the nature of their client projects is highly varied, we are ideally looking for someone who straddles both embedded software and electronics, though we are happy to consider a specialist in either area who is comfortable learning the other and working system-wide.
About the role
As an Embedded Systems Engineer, you will help guide projects from initial concept and prototyping through to implementation, production, and release. You could do everything from designing and testing electronic prototypes and consulting on system-level architecture, to writing, testing, and debugging complex embedded firmware. You will be a valued member of hybrid project teams, collaborating closely with internal and client team members to make critical decisions on development approaches.
The team will rely on you to:
- Architect, write, and test embedded firmware and software solutions for a variety of products, including next-generation systems and cloud processing algorithms.
- Design and test electronic hardware, from concept and prototyping through to mass manufacture.
- Lead technical requirements elicitation, implementation, and refinement for complex, cross-functional projects.
- Manage testing and verification processes, ensuring adherence to EMC, documented software processes,
and ISO/IEC regulatory standards.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across disciplines, reviewing schematics and debugging hardware-software integration issues on prototypes.
- Provide technical advice to clients and contribute to proposal generation, software architecture, and project planning.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching to other engineers, fostering a continuous improvement culture to lift the team's overall capability.
Ideally you have:
- 5+ years of experience in firmware, electronics, or embedded engineering within product development.
- Strong proficiency in Embedded C/C++ and Python, and/or PCB design using Altium (or similar).
- Experience developing architectures for embedded systems and working with embedded microcontrollers and RTOS (e.g., STM32, Nordic devices, or Zephyr).
- Familiarity with hardware-software integration, debugging techniques, and testing and verification including EMC.
- A Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics, Electronics, Software, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Bonus points if you also have:
- Experience with wireless communication protocols (e.g., Bluetooth, WiFi, LoRa, LTE).
- A specialisation in power electronics, battery systems, low power systems, or RF.
- Experience developing products in highly regulated environments, like medical devices, to standards like IEC 62304 and ISO 13485.
What’s next
If this sounds like a outstanding opportunity for you, please apply today. We have a longer lead time with this hire and will be reviewing applications over the coming weeks, calling shortlisted applicants for a phone screen before interviewing with the client.
