Entry-Level Quality Assurance Officer / Asphalt Crew Member Mackay, QLD | Temp-to-Perm | Hybrid On-the-Tools Role
About the Role We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused person to join an established asphalt team in Mackay as an Entry-Level Quality Assurance Officer / Asphalt Crew Member.
This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, commencing on a temporary basis with the potential to transition into permanent employment following a successful initial period.
The position would suit someone with previous exposure to workplace health and safety, HSE support, site administration or civil construction who is looking to develop their quality assurance experience. Training in asphalt quality processes will be provided.
This is not an office-based quality assurance role. It is a hybrid, on-the-tools position requiring you to work onsite alongside the asphalt crew. You will support quality and safety activities while also assisting with asphalt paving, road maintenance and general labouring duties.
Your Responsibilities
- Complete quality assurance paperwork and maintain accurate site records
- Record asphalt temperatures, delivery times and material quantities
- Assist with asphalt sampling, testing and quality inspections
- Check delivery dockets and enter information into computer and tablet systems
- Assist with pre-starts, toolbox talks and safety inspections
- Support hazard identification and risk assessment activities
- Help maintain safety documentation, including SWMS, JHAs and site checklists
- Report hazards, incidents, near misses and quality concerns to the supervisor
- Assist with incident reporting and corrective actions
- Promote safe work practices across the crew
- Ensure quality and safety records remain organised and up to date
Asphalt Crew Duties
- Work onsite as an active member of the asphalt crew
- Assist with asphalt paving, patching and road maintenance
- Help prepare work areas and move materials and equipment
- Undertake general labouring, including raking, shovelling and site clean-up
- Work safely around trucks,
paving equipment and active roadwork areas
- Follow all safety procedures and supervisor instructions
About You We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience or exposure to workplace health and safety
- Understands basic hazard identification and safe work practices
- Is comfortable working onsite in an outdoor construction workplace
- Is physically capable of undertaking hands-on and manual duties
- Understands that this is a hybrid quality, safety and on-the-tools position
- Is reliable, punctual and willing to learn
- Has strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills
- Is comfortable completing paperwork and using a computer or tablet
- Communicates confidently with supervisors and crew members
- Works well as part of a team
- Can work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Is available for early starts and occasional overtime, weekend or night work
Requirements
- Previous workplace safety, HSE support, site administration or civil construction experience
- Current Australian driver’s licence
- Construction White Card, or willingness to obtain one
- Full Australian working rights
- Ability to work onsite and undertake manual asphalt crew duties
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing
- Ability to travel to projects throughout Mackay and surrounding areas
Desirable
- Experience completing safety inspections, incident reports or site documentation
- Previous exposure to asphalt, civil construction or road maintenance
- Traffic Management, Traffic Control or relevant plant tickets
