One full time vacancy fixed to 31/12/2029 is available The opportunity The Rum Jungle Rehabilitation Project is delivering a major program of works to rehabilitate the former Rum Jungle Mine Site near Batchelor.
As Environment, Safety and Health Officer you will be managing environmental programs across Stage 3a of the project. The work combines site based environmental monitoring, rehabilitation activities, regulatory requirements, technical advice and team leadership.
You will work with project staff, technical specialists, regulators and other stakeholders to help deliver sound environmental outcomes throughout the rehabilitation program.
This is a practical environmental role with regular site involvement. It will suit someone who wants to apply their technical knowledge to a complex rehabilitation project and see the outcomes of their work on the ground.
What you will do
- Develop and manage environmental activities across the rehabilitation project.
- Manage surface water, groundwater, radiation safety and environmental monitoring programs.
- Support remediation, revegetation and environmental investigation activities.
- Manage and provide direction to a small team of specialist technicians.
- Liaise with regulators and support compliance with environmental obligations.
- Prepare technical advice, reports and recommendations for project leaders and stakeholders.
What you will bring
You will hold a degree level qualification in a relevant science, environmental management or engineering discipline and have practical experience in environmental management.
Experience in mining, mine rehabilitation or another complex environmental setting will be well regarded.
You will be comfortable working with environmental legislation, monitoring programs, regulatory requirements and technical information.
The role requires sound judgement, strong problem solving skills and the ability to communicate clearly with technical specialists, regulators and other stakeholders. Experience using reporting systems, environmental data and spatial databases will be important.
You will also bring an understanding of the cultural considerations involved in working with Aboriginal people and communities.
