Looking for a carpentry role with variety, autonomy and a team behind you?
CBR Qld is looking for an experienced, trade-qualified Carpenter to join our established team on the Fraser Coast.
Our way of working gives experienced tradespeople the space to use their skills and judgement. With a Project Manager and Leading Hand coordinating our projects and team, our carpenters are trusted to take ownership of their allocated works — understand the scope, plan their day, solve problems as they arise and deliver a quality result.
This is a hands-on trade role, not a supervisory position. It suits someone who enjoys having responsibility for their own work while still being part of a supportive and experienced team.
If you enjoy being trusted to get on with the job, want more variety than the same project build every day, and like the idea of working locally — we'd like to hear from you.
About Us
CBR Qld is a locally owned building company established on the Fraser Coast in 2011. We work predominantly across the commercial and government sectors, delivering works for State and Local Government across Education, Housing, Health and community facilities, as well as NDIS accessible modifications and commercial building maintenance.
Our pipeline is continuous and the work is genuinely varied. One week might involve modifications to an existing government building, the next an accessible bathroom, school upgrade, commercial fit-out or maintenance works.
No two weeks look the same — the only thing the same is every other Friday off!
The Role
You'll work within our established team and be given clear scopes for your allocated works. Depending on the size and complexity of the job, you may work independently or alongside our Leading Hand, other CBR team members and subcontractors.
You'll be trusted to
- Carry out commercial carpentry across renovations, upgrades, fit-outs, maintenance and accessible modifications
- Read and understand scopes, plans and site information
- Complete check measures and identify materials required for your works, with larger procurement generally coordinated by the office
- Plan and organise your daily work to keep allocated works progressing to schedule
- Think ahead and communicate early when something may affect time, cost, safety or the client
- Use your trade knowledge to problem-solve when existing and older buildings reveal the unexpected
- Work safely and adapt to changing conditions in live environments including schools, occupied housing and community facilities
- Communicate professionally with clients, tenants, subcontractors and your CBR teammates
- Record works in our job management system as you go, including photos, notes, updates and site sign-in/out
- Finish each job properly — quality checked, clean, documented and ready for handover
Our current leadership structure is established, but we're a growing business and there may be opportunities for career development and progression in the future.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced tradesperson who takes pride in their craft, uses good judgement and enjoys the responsibility that comes with being trusted to manage their own work.
You'll need
- Certificate III in Carpentry or an equivalent trade qualification
- Ideally 5+ years' post-trade experience with solid commercial, renovation or maintenance experience
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of allocated works and deliver them to a high standard
- Broad general building knowledge and confidence across the varied tasks that come with renovations, maintenance and commercial fit-outs
- Strong practical problem-solving skills, particularly when working with existing buildings
- Good time management and the ability to move between multiple jobs when required
- Explicit, professional communication with clients, subcontractors and teammates
- A genuine team-first attitude
- Pride in workmanship, site presentation and leaving a job properly finished
- Confidence using mobile apps and job management systems for photos, job documentation and WHS requirements
- Current unrestricted manual driver's licence and a suitable trade work vehicle
- Construction White Card
- Willingness to obtain NDIS Worker Screening, Working with Children clearance and a Queensland Police Certificate — we'll assist with arranging these if you're successful through our recruitment process
We don't expect anyone to know everything. We do value tradespeople who know when to use their own judgement, when to ask a question and when something needs to be raised with the wider team.
What We Offer
- Above-award rates, negotiated based on the experience and capability you bring
- 9-day fortnight — every second Friday off
- Steady, year-round work supported by a continuous government and commercial pipeline
- Local Fraser Coast work — no working away
- Genuine variety across commercial, government, maintenance and modification works
- An established Project Manager and Leading Hand coordinating the work and supporting the team
- The autonomy to use your experience and judgement in your day-to-day work
- A team environment where knowledge, ideas and information are shared
- Modern job management and WHS systems
- Opportunities to learn, develop and potentially progress as our business grows
How We Work

We respect our clients, our teammates and the environments we work in. We take pride in our workmanship and we don't cut corners on safety — ever.
We believe good tradespeople should be trusted to do their job, supported when they need it and recognised for the experience and contribution they bring to the team.
