About the role

District Brewer is seeking an Experienced Café Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team. This is a full-time position based in Bentleigh, VIC. As an Experienced Café Chef, you will be responsible for creating exceptional café cuisine that reflects our commitment to quality and innovation. This role is central to delivering the outstanding dining experience our customers expect and plays a vital part in maintaining District Brewer's reputation as a leading hospitality destination.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare and cook a diverse range of café-style dishes using fresh, high-quality ingredients
- Maintain consistent food quality, presentation and flavour across all service periods
- Manage food preparation areas, ensuring cleanliness, organisation and compliance with health and safety standards
- Develop and execute daily specials and seasonal menu items
- Supervise and mentor junior kitchen staff, providing guidance and training as required
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate stock requirements to management
- Collaborate with the management team to refine menus and implement new culinary ideas
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and maintain proper food handling practices
- Efficiently manage time and prioritise tasks during peak service periods

What we're looking for

- Minimum 3-5 years' experience working as a chef in a busy café or similar hospitality environment
- Sound knowledge of café cuisine, including breakfast items, lunch options, pastries and hot beverages
- Proficiency in food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment operation
- Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and sanitation requirements
- Proven ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments whilst maintaining quality standards




- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Experience in menu development and food costing is desirable
- Leadership qualities and the ability to train and motivate team members
- Flexibility with shift times, including early mornings and weekend availability
- Current food safety certifications or qualifications (RSA/RCG or equivalent)
- Passion for culinary excellence and continuous improvement
