About the role
Barking Outback is seeking an early-career Exploration Geologist with approximately 1–5 years’ experience to support and participate in greenfields and early-stage exploration programmes across Western Australia.
This role is ideally suited to a motivated geologist who has already developed a solid foundation in field-based exploration and is ready to take the next step in their career. You will work across a range of commodities and geological settings, providing practical on-site geological support for exploration programmes including mapping, soil and rock-chip sampling, drilling supervision, geological logging, sampling, QAQC and follow-up interpretation.
Working as part of a small, experienced and highly capable team, you will be involved in the safe and efficient execution of exploration campaigns from early-stage target assessment through to drill programme delivery. The role will include time in the field across regional Western Australia, as well as office-based work in Perth assisting with data review, geological interpretation, assay analysis and planning for follow-up exploration.
The successful candidate will be passionate about geology and discovery, enjoy working in remote field environments, and bring a strong work ethic, curiosity, initiative and a willingness to continue learning. Candidates with experience in gold, lithium, base metals or broader hard-rock exploration will be viewed favourably, particularly where they have exposure to AC, RC or diamond drilling programmes.
Familiarity with exploration and mining software such as QGIS, Datamine, IoGAS or similar platforms will be highly regarded.
Barking Outback operates on a campaign-style exploration roster, with time spent in the field and in our Perth office as required. This is a full-time position.
What we’re looking for
· Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related earth science discipline.
· Approximately 1–5 years’ experience in exploration geology, ideally within Western Australia.
· Practical field experience in geological logging, sampling, mapping and drill programme support.
· Exposure to AC, RC and/or diamond drilling programmes.
· Understanding of sampling procedures, QAQC protocols and data quality requirements.
· Ability to assist with drill rig management and day-to-day field programme coordination.
· Strong commitment to safety and the ability to work within client and company safety systems.
· Sound understanding of hard-rock exploration, with exposure to gold, lithium, base metals or related mineral systems viewed favourably.
· Willingness to work in remote field environments on a campaign-style roster.
· Strong communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
· Ability to work effectively in small teams and contribute positively to field culture.
· Current C class WA driver’s licence.
· Eligibility and legal right to work in Australia.
