Red Sand Ecology are seeking experienced Fauna Spotter Catchers or suitably experienced wildlife handlers to facilitate infrastructure projects throughout Queensland.

Are you pragmatic, have good communication skills, can multi-task and are willing to work within and be supported by a team of like-minded individuals?

Applicants need to have previous experience in fauna spotter catching (or working in a similar role) and can demonstrate experience in fauna identification, safe handling and rescue/relocation. This role is ideal for experienced fauna spotter catchers, wildlife handlers, and early-career ecologists seeking practical field experience across a variety of environmental projects.

Roles are currently available for casual staff that could expand on their role as a fauna spotter catcher to including monitoring & reporting.

Your duties will require an understanding of fauna habitat and likelihood of occurrence for potential high risk and EVNT species. You will be responsible for ensuring effective wildlife management prior to, during and post construction works and maintain communication with all construction personnel where a risk to wildlife exists. Opportunities may also be available to undertake surveying, monitoring, weed management, and bush regeneration activities.

Certification and/or experience in these fields will be desirable but not essential.

Core skills and abilities include but are not limited to:

- Demonstrated experience in fauna spotting or similar role;
- A qualification in ecology or equivalent, or relevant experience and knowledge of the natural workplace.



This may be demonstrated in the ability for you to hold an independent Rehabilitation permit (Spotter catcher activities);
- Construction Industry White Card;
- Manual Drivers Licence and clean driving history;
- Experience with data collection applications, field reporting, and GPS;
- Wildlife handling skills and/or the willingness to learn safe handling techniques for a range of species;
- Certification in handling of venomous snakes (or willingness to obtain);
- A current first aid certificate;
- Competency with the use of identification tools to recognise fauna and flora to a species level;
- Familiarity with the ecology of the Koala and other conservation significant species with previous field experience or captive management preferred;
- Able to work both in a team environment and in positions of responsibility;
- Ability to incorporate a safety management system into all aspects of work;
- Previous experience around heavy machinery is desirable;

The role requires a reasonable level of health & fitness, including walking long distances over uneven terrain, working in hot and humid conditions, lifting equipment, and undertaking fieldwork for extended periods. This is a casual position and hours will vary depending on project requirements, workloads and construction schedules. Work may include day and night shift.

Applicants may be required to travel throughout Queensland and stay away for periods of time. Accommodation and vehicles are provided for the right candidates where remote work or increased travel for longer term projects is required.
