About us:

We invite you to bring your financial operations skills and experience as a Financial Accountant to Volunteering Gold Coast (VGC) to help shape our dynamic not-for-profit organisation. VGC’s mission is to extend the impact of services and programs through a volunteering movement that empowers purposeful, connected and inclusive communities. This is undertaken through a number of service arms including Transport, Disability and Aged Care Services, and Community Volunteering.

This role oversees and supports the Finance and Payroll functions, managing performance reporting to highlight the non-financial drivers impacting the financial result. Reporting to the Chief Finance and Risk Officer (CFRO), this role will provide financial and performance reporting and analysis to Executive Management, oversee integration projects, and contribute towards the productive and accurate management of finances at VGC.

The Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and supporting the following functions;

- Provide analysis on financial results, including trends, performance, and benchmarks, along with non-financial aspects of the business, such as trend analysis and forecast
- Fulfil the function of the second-in-command to the CFRO as required
- Preparation of annual year-end statutory accounts and organisational budgets
- Provide timely and accurate monthly performance reports on agreed KPIs with analysis on financial and non-financial indicators to the Senior Management, Executive Management, and external stakeholders, regularly
- Produce financial reports for the monthly Board meeting
- Prepare and oversee payroll calculations and processes, ensuring all relevant reporting obligations and legislative requirements are met.




- Manage the general ledger though providing oversight and support to the Accounts Receivable/Payable, Cash Management, and Payroll functions, including invoicing customers and ensuring internal controls are adhered to.
- Ensure payroll operations adhere to internal policies and procedures. Maintain accurate records for future payroll liabilities while resolving any payroll discrepancies by collecting and analysing all relevant information.
- Provides effective leadership, mentoring, and training to the Finance team, building and sustaining positive relationships and recognising the contributions of others.
- Ensuring adherence to Accounting Standards and legislation, organisational procedures, regulations, and policies
- Contribute and/or develop organisational procedures, regulations and policies to ensure compliance with standards, legislation and industry best practice
- Preparation and/or oversight for the lodgement of statutory returns, including ATO (FBT, GST, BAS, etc), Payroll Tax and Superannuation returns
- Undertake the reconciliation of ledger accounts for Profit and loss and balance sheet
- Oversee cash management, highlighting payment delays to the CFRO/CEO
- Actively participate in and oversee integration projects in the finance department, supporting the continuous improvement projects at VGC
- Support transactional financial processes to ensure business continuity as a cover for absences

Education and Qualifications:

- Tertiary qualification in Finance or Accounting, or similar.




- Professional registration with an accredited accounting body such as CA (Chartered Accountant), CPA (Certified Practicing Accountant), or IPA (Institute of Public Accountants).
- Working Rights in Australia

Knowledge and Experience

- Experience in accounting and/or business administration, preferably within the not-for-profit sector with a focus on Management Accounting
- Knowledge and understanding of statutory requirements from accounting standards, legislation and regulations for compliance
- Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor and report on budgets, determine financial objectives that establish a focus on business outcomes
- Advanced computer software skills and appreciation of data warehousing with highly developed skills in using Excel, Power BI, and other financial software and tools for reporting and analysis purposes
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing work priorities through well-developed time management and organisational skills, to complete work within expected timeframes
- High attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to exercise sound judgment
- Demonstrated exemplary skills in written and verbal interpersonal communication, including team participation, conflict resolution and negotiation.
