About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Financial Controller to join our growing labour hire construction business. This is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the finance function, driving financial discipline, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls and providing insights that support operational and strategic decision-making.
Working closely with senior management and operational teams, you will play a key role in understanding business performance, managing financial risks, and ensuring the profitability and sustainability of our workforce solutions. The successful candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and capable of managing the full finance function while partnering with stakeholders across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end finance function, including month-end, year-end close and financial reporting.
- Prepare and review financial statements and management reports
- Financial analysis including analysing labour hire profitability and gross margins.
- Manage cash flow reporting/forecasting.
- Develop and maintain rate card analysis, ensuring labour rates, charge-out rates, pay rates, awards, on-costs, and margins are accurately reflected
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, taxation obligations, payroll requirements, and statutory reporting.
- Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes
- Oversee payroll processes, including award interpretation, payroll cost analysis, and reconciliation of labour costs.
- Oversee payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable,
and general ledger functions
- Lead audit processes and liaise with external accountants, auditors, and advisors
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business strategy and growth
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and efficiencies
- Support and mentor finance team members
About You
You will be an experienced finance professional with strong technical accounting skills and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
You will have
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- CPA or CA qualification preferred
- Advanced Excel skills
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or senior accounting role
- Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards, taxation, and compliance requirements
- Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
