WE’RE HIRING — FOH ALL-ROUNDER

Rumah by Jin is a growing Malaysian street cafe & restaurant in Neutral Bay, and we’re looking for a reliable, capable FOH All-Rounder to join our team.

We’ve been operating for under a year and have seen significant growth over the past couple of months as we continue to build our core customer base. Rumah means “home” in Bahasa — and that’s exactly what we want our customers to feel: a taste of comfort and home away from home.

We’re a small, young Asian team made up of Malaysians and Indonesians, and we’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality and wants to be part of a growing business.

THE ROLE

Casual position — 5 days available, or 2 people splitting the roster

Our main staffing needs are Friday, Saturday & Sunday, although broader availability across the week is highly appreciated.

Standard shift:

- 8:00am – 3:00pm
- 7 hours including a 30-minute unpaid break

We are also happy to consider people looking for shorter shifts:
- 10:00am – 3:00pm
- 11:00am – 3:00pm

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING This is a genuine all-rounder role in a small restaurant, so you’ll have a variety of responsibilities:
- Taking customer orders and providing excellent customer service
- Making coffee and operating the espresso machine
- Running food and drinks
- Clearing and resetting tables
- Maintaining the general cleanliness and presentation of the restaurant
- Handling Uber Eats orders
- Monitoring stock and recording items that are running low
- Opening and closing the restaurant




- Helping the kitchen with basic preparation and garnishing during service
- Shared dishwashing duties between FOH and kitchen
- Jumping in wherever the team needs help during service

Our coffee service is relatively low volume, so you don’t need to be a competition-level barista. You must, however, have experience using a commercial coffee machine. Latte art isn't a major requirement — if you can consistently pour a easy heart, we're happy.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required:

- Customer service experience
- Commercial coffee machine experience
- Good understanding of spoken English
- Reliable and responsible
- Able to work effectively as part of a team
- Able to organise yourself and manage your own workload
- Comfortable working independently when required

Preferred:

- At least 1 year of FOH/hospitality experience
- Previous kitchen or food preparation experience
- Familiarity with Asian food
- Chinese or Bahasa Indonesia/Malay language skills

We are happy to teach more advanced hospitality and coffee skills to the right person. MOST IMPORTANTLY...

We’re looking for someone who takes initiative.

We’re a small restaurant, which means there isn't always someone standing beside you telling you what needs to be done.



We want someone who can look around, recognise what needs attention, and get it done.

You should be comfortable handling a small lunch rush without panicking, communicating with the kitchen, keeping yourself organised and eventually being trusted to run FOH independently.

Weekend shifts will be ongoing, with more shifts expected to open up as the business continues to grow. Neutral Bay — near Big Bear and local bus stops

Street parking is available around the area, although availability can vary.
