Employment Opportunity The Freedom of Information and Privacy section (FOIP) within the Office of Corporate Counsel (OCC) is primarily responsible for processing the department's access to information requests under the FOI and Privacy Acts. FOIP processes Freedom of Information requests made to the department, the Attorney-General, the Anti-Slavery Commissioner and the Inspector of the National Anti-Corruption Commission. The section is also responsible for undertaking the department's Privacy Act casework functions.

APS5-6 FOIP Case Officer roles in the FOIP team involve a wide range of matters, a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders and a high degree of autonomy.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their information law experience and expertise through, among other things, efficient handling of FOI and Privacy requests in collaboration with a team of collegiate and experienced colleagues.

FOI and Privacy casework suits applicants who enjoy engaging with clients and stakeholders, critical thinking and writing, and who have an interest in administrative decision-making and case management.

Our ideal candidate will

- assist the department to meet its statutory obligations under the FOI Act and Privacy Act
- provide advice to, and work with, business areas to finalise FOI cases
- contribute to the development and improvement of best practice procedures and systems
- build and maintain relationships with various internal and external stakeholders
- liaise and consult on information access matters, and
- work flexibly and collegiately in response to changes in business demands.

Other qualifications: Legal qualifications are not essential but highly regarded.

To be eligible for employment at the Attorney-General’s Department applicants must be Australian citizens.

Applicants offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a police record check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a specified clearance level. The successful applicant must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.

Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created from this process, and will be active for 18 months after the date of this gazettal.
