About the role The position involves a combination of optical dispensing, patient service, reception, administration and general practice support. Depending on your experience, responsibilities may include assisting patients with frame selection, optical dispensing, understanding and explaining lens options, adjusting and fitting spectacles, checking completed jobs, processing orders, liaising with optical laboratories, booking appointments, answering enquiries, greeting patients, processing payments and Medicare claims, maintaining patient records, assisting the optometrist and team members, maintaining the practice environment, and following established procedures.

Key responsibilities

- Assisting patients with frame selection and providing appropriate advice based on prescription, fit, comfort, lifestyle and visual requirements.
- Optical dispensing, including frame and lens measurements, PDs, heights and other required fitting measurements.
- Understanding and explaining lens options, coatings, multifocals, occupational lenses and other optical products.
- Adjusting, fitting and performing minor repairs to spectacles.
- Checking completed jobs and ensuring spectacles meet the required prescription and dispensing specifications.
- Processing spectacle and lens orders accurately.




- Liaising with optical laboratories and suppliers where required.
- Booking and managing patient appointments.
- Answering telephone, email and in-practice enquiries professionally.
- Processing payments, Medicare claims and general practice administration.

About you

- Optical experience is highly desirable.
- Formal optical dispensing qualifications are advantageous but are not essential if you have robust relevant experience and the right attitude.
- Reliable, punctual and consistent.
- Motivated and willing to take responsibility for their work.
- Diligent and attentive to detail.
- Able to follow established procedures and protocols accurately.
- Organised and capable of managing multiple tasks without losing attention to detail.
- Comfortable working independently when required while also contributing to the team.
- A clear and confident communicator.
- Professional and respectful when dealing with patients.
