An chance exists for an experienced LOCUM DENTIST (GENERAL PRACTICE) to join a modern, patient-focused healthcare practice based in Newcastle, Northern KwaZulu-Natal.

This opportunity is suited to a clinically competent and ethical practitioner who enjoys delivering quality dental care while building long-term relationships with patients and working within a collaborative professional environment. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive oral healthcare services while maintaining high clinical, regulatory and patient-care standards.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

n

- Perform comprehensive oral examinations and formulate treatment plans.
n
- Diagnose and treat dental diseases and conditions.
n
- Carry out restorative procedures including fillings, crowns and bridges.
n
- Perform extractions and routine oral surgery procedures.
n
- Conduct root canal treatment and endodontic procedures where competent.
n
- Deliver preventative and periodontal treatments.
n
- Interpret radiographs and diagnostic imaging.
n
- Educate patients regarding oral hygiene and preventative care.
n
- Obtain informed consent and clearly explain treatment options and costs.
n




- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
n
- Ensure strict compliance with infection prevention and sterilisation protocols.
n
- Work closely with dental assistants and support staff to ensure effective patient flow.
n
- Deliver excellent patient care and maintain a professional bedside manner.
n
- Manage treatment appointments effectively while maintaining quality standards.
n
- Participate in case discussions and continuous professional development.
n
- Remain current with modern dental technologies, procedures and evidence-based practices.
n
- Maintain ethical and professional standards in accordance with HPCSA requirements.
n
- Promote a positive and patient-centred practice culture.
n

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

n

n
- BChD, BDS or equivalent recognised Dental Degree.
n
- Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
n
- Eligible to practice independently within South Africa.
n
- Experience within private practice advantageous.
n
- Sound knowledge of restorative and preventative dentistry.
n
- Ability to perform routine dental procedures including: Examinations Fillings Extractions Crowns and bridge work Root canal therapy Periodontal procedures Understanding of dental radiography and diagnostic imaging.
n
- Knowledge of infection prevention and sterilisation protocols.
n
- Excellent patient communication and interpersonal skills.
n
- Ability to work effectively with dental assistants and administrative personnel.
n
- Strong time management and record-keeping skills.
n
- Commitment to ethical practice and patient safety.
n
- Interest or experience in cosmetic dentistry, paediatric dentistry, endodontics or advanced restorative procedures advantageous.
n
- Computer literacy and exposure to digital patient management systems advantageous.
n
- Continuing professional development and willingness to adopt modern technologies advantageous.
n
- Traceable & contactable references.
n
- Local residency or willingness to relocate required.
