The Opportunity
As part of the Finance division of La Trobe Financial, your primary responsibility will be to oversee the Corporate Financial Control team to ensure integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements and implementation of effective internal controls of the corporate entities that underpin the Group.
The corporate entities you will be responsible for include the servicer, trust manager and capital provider of the La Trobe Financial Group including any external debt requirements. As such, this role requires someone with strong communication skills as you will be working across a broad range of stakeholders throughout the organisation.
You will lead the Accounts Payable / Commissions Payable functions and manage IT Capitalisation, HR Spend and General Expense Reporting programs. You will work closely with our Head of Tax to ensure accuracy and completeness of record keeping and group corporate ATO payments. You will have a key role in managing the relationship with our external Auditors and co-ordinate the planning and delivery of half-year and annual financial reporting cycle.
This role reports to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer with the primary focus being leading a team of finance professionals and working closely with senior management. You will become a member in the Finance executive team and provide strategic support together with financial insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversight and responsibility for Corporate Financial Control;
- Oversight of Accounts Payable and Commissions Payable functions including external suppliers,
referrers, advisers and valuers;
- Management of a team of finance professionals responsible for the accounting of all Corporate entities within the La Trobe Financial Group;
- Communicate financial performance and control matters to key stakeholders;
- Management and co-ordination of the external audit including relationship management, planning, status updates and communication and resolution of audit findings;
- Statutory financial reporting in accordance with AASB/IFRS for the corporate entities;
- Responsibility for the monthly, quarterly and annual APRA returns and any other regulatory reporting required from time to time;
- Liaising with management on the setting and ongoing adherence to the overheads budget, including monthly HR ad general expense reporting;
- Liaising with management on the setting and ongoing adherence to the existing IT Capitalisation program;
- Contributing to the setting of the Group Forecast Model (GFM) for corporate entities and overheads;
- Work closely with Taxation team to ensure complete and timely lodgement of BAS returns, income tax returns and FBT returns;
- Ensuring adequate capital is centralised and accounted for
- Provide training and encourage development of the team to promote high staff engagement;
- Involvement in management committees and the Board in secretarial and/or member capacity as directed;
- Lead Corporate Financial Control and contribute to broader Finance team automation initiatives, including system enhancements;
About You The successful applicant will hold a CA/CPA qualification as well as 10+ years in a financial control leadership role or audit. Additional skills and experience required include:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting,
Finance or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of AASB/IFRS, specifically AASB 138.
- Proven ability to manage and motivate teams in rapid paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications and adaptability to other applications.
- Understanding of Finance One favourably regarded, but not essential.
- Experience with management of accounts payable functions (incl commission payments) is essential while experience with the management of payroll (and associated payments) favourably regarded
- Strong written and verbal communicator that can build rapport with the executive team and leads staff by example in a high-pressure environment.
- Demonstrates strategic thinking and commercial acumen in decision-making.
