We're building a new Corporate Affairs function, and we're looking for a Head of Corporate Communications to lead the reputation strategy that carries that purpose to the people who matter our clients, our people, media, stakeholders and communities.
This is a senior, hands-on role reporting to the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer. You’ll lead earned media, issues and crisis communications and make sure the story we tell externally is the same story we tell to our people. You’ll be at the forefront of a new challenge shaping how Slater and Gordon shows up not just in the news, but in AI and generative platforms. Key Responsibilities Include
- Lead the development and implementation of Slater & • Gordon’s Corporate Communications strategy, aligned with Corporate Affairs, organisational priorities and reputation objectives.
- Provide senior communications counsel to the CCAO, CEO, ELT and senior leaders on reputation opportunities, risks, priorities and significant business matters.
- Lead integrated, AI-optimised earned media and corporate reputation strategies, building relationships with priority media and enhancing the firm’s authority, visibility and discoverability.
- Lead media strategies for major class actions, corporate announcements and high-profile matters, strengthening understanding of the firm’s legal expertise, client impact and access-to-justice contribution.
- Lead issue and crisis communications, developing frameworks, escalation protocols and coordinated responses across Legal, Risk, People & • Culture, Marketing and relevant business leaders.
- Lead the CEO and ELT media interface, identifying opportunities, preparing executives for engagements and ensuring media activity aligns with the corporate narrative and strategic direction.
- Lead the Internal Communications function, overseeing strategy, channels, editorial planning, employee communications, leadership messaging,
town halls and organisational change communications.
- Partner with Strategic Communications & • Campaigns, Marketing, People &
- Culture and Transformation to ensure consistent corporate and change narratives across internal and external channels.
- Establish effective governance, planning, prioritisation and measurement frameworks, including media performance, sentiment, message penetration, reputation outcomes and capability development.
- Lead and develop the Corporate Communications team, setting clear priorities and performance expectations while building strong cross-functional relationships and allocating resources effectively.
Role Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, public relations, corporate affairs or a related discipline, with 10+ years’ senior experience in complex, high-profile or regulated environments.
- Proven success leading corporate communications and reputation strategies, including strong corporate, business and financial media expertise and relationships.
- Extensive experience managing complex issues and crisis communications, advising CEOs and executive teams, with strong corporate, commercial and political judgement.
- Robust understanding of internal communications, employee engagement, organisational change, digital reputation, AI discoverability and the evolving role of earned media.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build high-performing teams and demonstrate integrity, discretion and resilience.
