The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking educational leader to join St Margaret's Berwick Grammar as Head of Professional Learning.

Reporting to the Principal and Vice Principal, this influential whole-school role will shape the culture, systems and practices that enable professional growth, instructional excellence and continuous improvement. Working alongside School leaders, the successful candidate will create the conditions in which staff are supported and challenged to learn, collaborate, innovate and continually strengthen their practice for the benefit of students.

The role leads professional learning, coaching, leadership development, research and innovation initiatives aligned with the School's Strategic Plan. It also carries a teaching load and provides the opportunity to remain closely connected to classroom practice and student learning.

Key responsibilities

- Design, implement and evaluate a coherent whole-school professional learning strategy aligned with strategic and improvement priorities.
- Build a visible coaching, feedback and reflective-practice culture that strengthens professional agency and shared accountability.
- Coordinate staff learning days, professional learning programs, mentoring, induction and leadership development opportunities.
- Lead professional inquiry, Qualified Learning Communities, collaborative learning and action research across the School.
- Champion consistent, evidence-informed and contemporary teaching practices,



with high expectations for student learning.
- Work with Learning Leaders to review and strengthen teaching programs, resources and classroom practice.
- Lead the SMBG Staff Learning Performance and Growth Framework and evaluate the impact of professional learning on staff practice and student outcomes.
- Use student performance data, research and feedback to identify capability needs and inform improvement priorities.
- Develop productive relationships with educational organisations, professional associations and research networks.

About you You will be an accomplished educator and credible leader who can translate strategic priorities into practical, high-impact approaches to staff and student learning. You will bring:

- Demonstrated success in strategic and instructional leadership, including leading whole-school change and improvement initiatives.
- A strong understanding of high-quality teaching and learning across year levels, including VCE.
- Experience in coaching, adult professional learning, leadership development and building collaborative, high-performing teams.
- The capacity to use data, educational research and multiple sources of evidence to improve practice and evaluate impact.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary pedagogy, instructional models, educational innovation and emerging technologies.
- Excellent relationship-building, communication and influencing skills, with the judgement to handle sensitive information appropriately.
- A commitment to curiosity, thoughtful experimentation,



collective responsibility and continuous improvement.
- Appropriate teaching qualifications and current Victorian Institute of Teaching registration.
