Perth

Go West Tours is seeking an experienced HSE Manager to take ownership of Health, Safety and Environment performance across a significant transport operation supporting a Tier 1 mining client in Western Australia's Pilbara.

This is a senior operational HSE role for someone who wants to do more than administer a safety system. You will own the contract HSE management system, lead risk and critical-control assurance, oversee investigation and corrective-action quality, and work closely with operational leadership to continuously improve HSE performance.

The role operates on a FIFO basis from Perth, with roster arrangements currently flexible and to be agreed with the successful candidate.

The opportunity

Reporting operationally to the Contract Manager, with functional support from Go West's HSEQ Manager, you will be responsible for providing HSE leadership across a complex, multi-site operating environment.

You will lead the HSE function on the contract, including providing direction and oversight to the HSE Coordinator, while maintaining strong working relationships with operational leaders, frontline employees and client HSE representatives.

This is a hands-on leadership position. We are looking for someone equally comfortable analysing risk and assurance data, reviewing an investigation, engaging with senior stakeholders and spending time in the field verifying that critical controls are actually working.

Key responsibilities

You will

- Own, maintain and continually improve the contract HSE management system.
- Maintain and actively review the operational risk register and ensure material risks remain effectively controlled.
- Lead critical-control implementation, verification and assurance.
- Provide HSE governance and compliance oversight across company, client, legislative and contractual requirements.

- Lead HSE assurance activities including audits, inspections, field verification and compliance reviews.
- Ensure incidents and near misses are appropriately investigated, with a strong focus on investigation quality, root causes, effective corrective actions and organisational learning.
- Oversee corrective actions arising from incidents, risk reviews and assurance activities and verify their effectiveness.
- Provide practical HSE leadership and advice to operational managers and supervisors.
- Lead continuous-improvement initiatives using risk information, incident learnings, assurance findings, performance data and workforce feedback.
- Oversee contractor HSE management and management-of-change requirements.
- Oversee emergency preparedness, injury management and return-to-work requirements.
- Monitor and report HSE performance, trends and emerging risks.
- Maintain effective HSE consultation and workforce participation arrangements.
- Oversee environmental compliance requirements.
- Develop HSE capability across leaders and the workforce.
- Lead and support the HSE team, including setting priorities, providing technical guidance and maintaining appropriate performance expectations.

These responsibilities reflect the system ownership, risk, critical-control, assurance and operational leadership accountabilities established in the position description.

The role also carries responsibility for HSE performance reporting, continuous improvement, injury management, stakeholder engagement, consultation, environmental compliance and HSE capability. About you To succeed in this role, you will have:

- Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety or a higher WHS/Safety Management qualification.
- Demonstrated experience managing HSE and risk-management systems within mining, transport or a comparable operational environment.
- ICAM Lead Investigator training or equivalent.
- Strong experience in HSE assurance and corrective-action management.
- Working knowledge of the WA Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022.
- Working knowledge of fitness-for-work, injury-management and return-to-work processes.
- A current C-Class driver's licence.
- Strong skilled judgement and the confidence to challenge decisions, stop work and escalate unresolved risk.
- Proven leadership, coaching, stakeholder-management and communication capability.
- The ability to interpret risk, assurance and performance data and identify systemic issues.

Experience on a Tier 1 mining contract, working across multiple sites or regional operations, and a Diploma or higher qualification in WHS will be highly regarded.

What we offer

Salary from $170,000 + superannuation, commensurate with experience and capability.

This is a FIFO position from Perth, with flexibility around the final roster arrangement. For the right candidate, we are prepared to discuss a roster that supports both the operational requirements of the contract and a sustainable FIFO lifestyle.

You'll join an established transport business with the prospect to genuinely influence HSE performance rather than simply administer an existing program.
