Provide practical, people-focused HR support across a complex mining operation
Mt Lyell is an iconic asset that has helped shape Australian mining for over 120 years. Today, it’s poised at the start of its next chapter, which consists of large-scale brownfields restart project, delivering an operation that will support the growing global demand for copper as a critical energy transition metal, with significant gold and silver by-products.
Sibanye-Stillwater Australia has completed the studies necessary to support the restart of operations, consisting of underground mining, the construction of a current processing facility, a paste backfill system, shaft infrastructure refurbishment, and all the other required non-process infrastructure at Mt Lyell.
We are seeking an experienced HR Advisor to join the team at the Mt Lyell Project and provide high-quality Human Resources advice and services across the operation.
This is a hands-on HR role suited to an experienced generalist HR practitioner who enjoys working closely with operational leaders and employees to deliver practical, effective HR outcomes. You will play an important role in supporting the implementation and execution of HR activities across the site while partnering with the broader regional HR team. This is a residential role, with accommodation provided, offering the opportunity to become an integral part of the site community and make a meaningful contribution during an exciting period of change.
The successful candidate will have the ability to operate effectively in a heavily regulated, fast-paced and complex environment, balancing operational priorities with sound HR practices, employee experience and organisational requirements.
The Opportunity
As HR Advisor, you will work as an integral member of the site operational team, providing trusted HR advice and support to leaders and employees across a broad range of people-related matters.
You will quality assure onboarding and off-boarding processes and support the effective management of the performance management system, ensuring employees and managers have relevant and meaningful performance plans in place. You will case-manage under-performance matters in partnership with relevant Superintendents and Supervisors, providing practical advice and guidance throughout the process.
You will contribute to talent management and succession planning activities and assist with the implementation of HR systems and programs across the site. You will also support the development and implementation of training and leadership programs, as well as remuneration and rewards systems and associated data.
A key part of the role will involve managing HR data, systems and processes associated with annual position budgeting, while contributing to regional workforce planning processes and frameworks. You will be expected to lead by example, demonstrating exemplary workplace conduct, professionalism and behaviours that support a positive and high-performing workplace culture.
Working collaboratively with operational leaders and the broader HR regional team, you will help ensure HR initiatives are effectively implemented and aligned with business and operational requirements.
About You
You will be an experienced HR professional with a minimum of five years' experience as an intermediate-level HR practitioner in a generalist HR discipline. You will bring strong experience across employee relations, workforce planning, remuneration and rewards, organisational design, HR data management and analysis, and HR policy and procedures.
Experience working in blue-collar and heavy industry environments will be highly regarded, as will previous experience working in remote locations or FIFO operations. Previous mining industry experience is desirable, particularly experience within metalliferous mining environments.
You will hold an undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business, Law or a related discipline, or demonstrate equivalent experience in generalist Human Resources Management within a relevant industry or operating environment. A Certificate in Return to Work and Rehabilitation would also be desirable. You will hold an open C Class Driver's Licence and have the unrestricted right to work in Australia.
What You Will Bring
You will have intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, Teams and SharePoint.
Experience with Pronto and DoneSafe applications will be advantageous. Strong emotional intelligence and well-developed interpersonal skills will be essential. You will be confident communicating both verbally and in writing with employees and leaders across multiple disciplines and levels of an organisation.
You will be comfortable working collaboratively within a team environment and navigating professional relationships within a matrix reporting structure. Strong presentation, influencing and consulting skills will enable you to build trusted relationships and provide practical HR advice to operational stakeholders.
You will bring a sound understanding of HR best-practice approaches across organisational design, organisational mapping and maintenance, internal recruitment, HR policy and procedure, employee engagement, organisational change management, training and development, employee relations, injury management, remuneration and rewards, HR data analysis and reporting, workplace investigations, dispute resolution, leadership and supervision, workforce planning, and organisational health and wellbeing.
A good working knowledge of Australian and Tasmanian legislation and regulations relating to privacy, employment, workers' compensation, workplace health and safety, human rights and anti-discrimination is expected. Knowledge of mining industry regulations and systems, particularly those relating to mining safety and metalliferous underground and/or open-cut mining operations, will be highly regarded.
