Rate - $1,000 – $1,100 per day
Contract - Long-term Defence engagement
Canberra Consulting is seeking an experienced ICT Systems / Product Manager to support the sustainment and ongoing enhancement of critical deployed ICT capabilities within a major Defence environment.
This is not a hands-on systems administration position. We are looking for someone who can operate at the intersection of ICT product management, capability sustainment, project delivery and stakeholder coordination, working with technical specialists, Defence capability stakeholders and senior managers to keep complex operational systems supported, enhanced and ready for use.
The successful candidate will ideally bring strong Defence experience and have previously worked as a Product Manager, Systems Manager, ICT Project Manager, Capability Manager, Sustainment Manager or senior Business Analyst within a complex ICT environment.
The role You will support the management and evolution of deployed ICT capabilities, coordinating enhancement and sustainment activities across multidisciplinary Defence teams.
Responsibilities will include:
- Planning and coordinating approved ICT system enhancements, including scope, schedules, dependencies and delivery activities.
- Managing multiple concurrent workstreams and coordinating cross-functional SMEs.
- Supporting capability roadmaps, delivery milestones and longer-term system direction.
- Coordinating Life-of-Type and lifecycle management activities.
- Tracking software licensing, renewals, entitlements and compliance requirements.
- Working across engineering, cyber security, ILS, training,
procurement and finance teams.
- Coordinating testing, operational acceptance, release planning and capability readiness.
- Providing reporting on performance, schedules, risks, issues and delivery progress.
- Identifying and escalating capability, resource and sustainment risks.
- Ensuring configuration, sustainment documentation and training artefacts remain current.
- Supporting Defence governance, security, change and compliance requirements.
The underlying Defence requirement specifically centres on sustaining deployed ICT capabilities and Command and Control networks, with the Directorate responsible for engineering, logistics, security, change, sustainment and incident management across a substantial deployed network setting.
What we are looking for
Demonstrated experience operating in a comparable Defence ICT or capability environment.
Strong candidates are likely to have:
- Significant experience delivering or sustaining Defence ICT capabilities.
- Experience in ICT Product Management, Systems Management, Project Management or Capability Management.
- Strong understanding of ICT sustainment and lifecycle management.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical, operational and executive environments.
- Experience managing roadmaps, enhancements, risks, dependencies and competing priorities.
- Familiarity with ITSM, ITIL, change management and/or service management environments.
- Experience working with Defence governance, security and compliance frameworks.
Experience across Agile, DevOps, product ownership, business analysis or service improvement would also be highly regarded — these are areas that made the successful incumbent particularly well aligned to the engagement. Qualifications such as PRINCE2, PMP, ITIL, Agile, Scrum or Product Management certifications will be advantageous.
Security clearance A current Australian Government NV1 security clearance is the minimum requirement.
Candidates holding an NV2 clearance are particularly encouraged to apply.
Contract
Location: Canberra, ACT
Rate: $1,000 – $1,100 per day
Clearance: NV1 minimum; NV2 preferred
Engagement: Long-term Defence contract with extension potential
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Defence ICT professional who enjoys taking ownership of complex capabilities without needing to be the deepest technical specialist in the room.
You will need to understand the technology, ask the right questions, coordinate the right people and ensure that sustainment and enhancement activities actually get delivered.
Apply
Please apply with an up-to-date CV outlining your relevant Defence ICT, systems, product, project or capability management experience.
Shortlisted applicants may be asked to provide a tailored CV and brief capability statement addressing their suitability for the engagement.
