The Role The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.
As an APS 6 Information and Records Management Officer, you will deliver enterprise-level records management and assurance activities to support the Nuclear Powered Submarine Program. You will work under broad direction to strengthen the information security culture and enable the ASA to operate with confidence in a sensitive and high profile environment.
You will work in a small, geographically dispersed team accountable for in-life records management, archiving and disposal of records, and assurance activities to uplift information and data management. You will set priorities, identify risks, and support capability development aligned with ASA’s mission and Government direction.
Leveraging your knowledge of legislative requirements, including the Information Management Standard for Australian Government and the Archives Act 1983, you will implement the ASA Information Governance Framework and related policies, and perform complex records management governance activities. You may act as a team lead, review existing processes and products, and build capability within the team and across stakeholder groups.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to engage with a range of stakeholders and shape information and records management practices across the Agency. You will provide expert advice, drive continuous improvement and practical solutions to complex challenges,
and support high-quality outcomes aligned with broader ASA objectives.

The Directorate of Information Governance plays a critical role in enabling the ASA to operate with confidence, integrity, and accountability. Through strong information governance and effective information and records management, the Directorate supports informed decision-making and the delivery of outcomes for the Nuclear Powered Submarine Program.
The Directorate provides enterprise-wide information governance and records management services, including setting and overseeing governance policy, delivering reporting, and managing the ASA’s electronic document and records management system. Through these functions, the Directorate works strategically to embed sound information management practices, strengthen compliance,
and build high-quality information management capability across the ASA, ensuring compliant, efficient, and accountable management of information throughout its lifecycle.

- Demonstrated experience managing records across their lifecycle, including sentencing, retention, and archiving, in accordance with the Archives Act 1983, relevant legislation, and established policies and procedures.
- Experience working within Commonwealth ICT and knowledge management frameworks, including management and maintenance of an agency Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS).
- Proven ability to communicate with influence, negotiate outcomes, and manage complex stakeholder relationships across a geographically dispersed network.
- Demonstrated capacity to identify issues proactively, analyse risks, and develop practical solutions that improve records management practices and enterprise Compliance.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound judgement in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment.
- A motivated self-starter and team player with a robust focus on continuous improvement.
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
