Job Description

Chandler Macleod is looking tosecure an experienced Civil Design Engineer to drive and manage engineering design development across a diverse project portfolio. This is a hands-on design management role-ideal for someone who can keep work moving, influence outcomes, and confidently sign off designs within a strong governance framework.

The opportunity

- Location: Perth (CBD) - hybrid, with occasional day trips to site (e.g., to support projects or attend FATs)
n
- Roster: Monday to Friday (standard office hours) + ad-hoc site visits
n
- Contract: Initial 6 months (potential to extend to 12 months for the right person)
n
- Start date: 1 October 2026
n
- Rate: $120.00/hr + super (PAYG)
n

What you'll be working on

n

You'll be responsible for design and design development across a portfolio including:

n

n
- Geotechnical works
n
- Underground piping
n
- Dams / foundations
n
- Water mains
n

n

Key responsibilities

n

n
- Manage external service providers (ESPs) and drive design development from concept through to construction-ready
n
- Ensure designs are fit-for-purpose and compliant within BHP engineering governance
n




- Review incoming design deliverables and critically analyse drawings and documentation
n
- Make practical engineering/design decisions and approve designs for construction
n
- Maintain schedule discipline and keep stakeholders aligned and informed
n

What we're looking for- Must-haves

n

n
- Degree-qualified engineer with a civil background
n
- Proven experience acting as a design manager / technical project manager (design governance, approvals, schedule accountability)
n
- Confident working with ESPs-able to hold teams to account and push outcomes
n
- Solid organisation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
n

Nice to have

n

n
- Exposure to SPO, MicroStation, P6, SAP
n
- Strong Excel capability and general familiarity with BHP ways of working
n
