ABOUT US

Spicy Saffron is a busy multi-cuisine restaurant located in Hornsby, NSW. We specialise in North Indian, South Indian, tandoori and Indo-Chinese cuisine.

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join our kitchen team in a genuine, ongoing full-time position. The successful applicant must be confident working in a busy commercial kitchen and producing consistently high-quality dishes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Prepare and cook a variety of authentic North Indian, South Indian, tandoori and Indo-Chinese dishes.
- Maintain consistent standards of taste, quality, portion size and presentation.
- Plan and develop menus in consultation with restaurant management.
- Monitor food quality throughout preparation, cooking and presentation.
- Estimate food requirements and assist with ordering ingredients and kitchen supplies.
- Monitor stock levels, food costs and wastage.
- Ensure ingredients are stored, labelled and rotated correctly.
- Coordinate kitchen activities during busy service periods.
- Discuss food preparation and service matters with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house employees.
- Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise staff on food preparation procedures.
- Train and supervise junior kitchen employees when required.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe commercial kitchen.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Assist with catering, functions, banquets and special-event menus when required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE To be considered for this position, applicants should have:
- A relevant Certificate IV, Diploma or equivalent qualification in Commercial Cookery, Kitchen Management or a related field.
- At least two years of relevant full-time experience in a commercial kitchen.




- Demonstrated experience preparing North Indian curries and tandoori dishes.
- Experience preparing South Indian and Indo-Chinese dishes.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, kitchen hygiene and stock control.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a kitchen team.
- The ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Good communication, organisation and time-management skills.
- Availability to work a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
