Junior GIS Officer – 6 Month Contract

GISjobs Australia is recruiting for a Junior GIS Officer to join a Canberra-based environmental consultancy supporting a range of environmental and spatial projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career GIS professional with around 2–3 years' practical experience who is ready to build on their existing skills in a supportive consulting environment.

The initial engagement will be a six-month contract, with the potential for extension.

What you'll be doing

- Creating, maintaining and updating spatial datasets
- Producing maps and other GIS outputs using ArcGIS Pro
- Supporting field data collection workflows using Field Maps, Survey123 and QuickCapture
- Cleaning, organising and improving data held in ArcGIS Online and SharePoint
- Assisting with spatial analysis and environmental project requirements




- Supporting data quality, documentation and general GIS administration
- Working remotely with GIS, environmental and project professionals

What we're looking for

- Approximately 2–3 years of GIS experience
- Positive practical knowledge of ArcGIS Pro
- Experience with ArcGIS Online
- Exposure to Field Maps, Survey123 and/or QuickCapture
- Confidence working with spatial and non-spatial datasets
- Good data management and data-cleaning skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment
- Good communication skills and a willingness to learn

Nice to have — but not essential

- Experience with Python or Power Automate,
- an interest in remote sensing, or
- a background/exposure to environmental science would all be valuable.
