Simmonds Laser & Tube Cutting, part of the Simmonds Group, is a growing laser cutting and manufacturing business based in Wangara, Western Australia. We specialize in flatbed laser cutting, tube and 3D laser cutting, CNC pressing and rolling.
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Laser Cutting Operator to join our team on a full time basis, working the afternoon shift from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
About the Role
This is a hands-on production role where you will be responsible for operating laser cutting machinery, preparing materials and ensuring products are manufactured safely, accurately and efficiently.
The successful candidate will work closely with the workshop team to meet production requirements while maintaining high standards of quality and workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fiber Laser operator.
- License to perform High Risk and with own transport.
- Perform daily machine startup and shutdown procedure.
- Operating and maintaining the laser machine to ensure optimal performance and quality output.
- Set machine, load and edit programs.
- Works with precision and tolerance, adhering quality standards.
- Read job drawings and check quality and quantity.
- Prioritize work lists based on its urgency to meet production targets.
- Set-up cutting parameters to get optimal quality.
- Cut plates from 0.55 mm – 25 mm – Laser (Various materials).
- Do renesting if needed to maximize the plate and minimize waste of material.
- Select sheet metal for a particular job and prep for laser cutting process.
- Check first cut and do milestone check to ensure that quality standard is achieved.
- Adhere to safety rules and regulations of the company and always maintain tidy a work area.
- Load and unload steel plate using forklift and overhead crane.
- Press brake knowledge will be advantageous, should you be required to fill in.
About You:
- Previous experience operating laser cutting machinery is essential.
- Experience in a manufacturing or workshop environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering or technical drawings.
- Ability to work with both light and heavy materials.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn.
- Reliable, hardworking and punctual.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to work overtime when required.
- Knowledge or experience with Delem, SolidWorks or similar software will be advantageous.
- A current driver's license and reliable transport.
