The role

You will work on live construction matters from the outset, across both front-end and disputes work.

Your work will include

- Drafting and reviewing head contracts, subcontracts and consultancy agreements, and preparing departure schedules.
- Advising on security of payment - payment claims and payment schedules under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 1999 (NSW), and adjudication applications and responses.
- Preparing and advancing claims for extensions of time, variations, delay, disruption and defects.
- Acting in disputes before the NSW Supreme Court Technology and Construction List, NCAT, expert determination, arbitration and mediation - including preparing evidence,



briefing counsel and instructing at hearing.
- Conducting legal research and preparing written advice on legislation, case law and contract interpretation.
- Direct client contact and participation in negotiations and meetings.

What we are looking for

- Admitted as a solicitor in NSW.
- 2–3 years' post-admission experience. Construction experience is an advantage; a genuine interest in the industry and a strong academic record matter more.
- LLB or JD, and completed practical legal training.
- Clear and precise drafting, and advice a client can act on.
- Commercial judgment - an understanding that clients need to complete projects and get paid.
- The discipline to manage competing deadlines and strict contractual time bars without loss of accuracy.
- An interest in contributing beyond your own files, through articles, seminars and building your professional network.
