Lead our VFLW program and help shape the future of women's football. Develop players and coaches, build a connected and competitive list, and work collaboratively across the AFLW, VFLW and talent pathway programs to drive alignment and growth. This is a season-long contract opportunity requiring a commitment to two training sessions each week and match day.
Key responsibilities
Coach the VFLW team, delivering measurable improvements in understanding of game plan, application of skill level and game sense
Manage the strategic and operational responsibilities for coaching of the VFLW team
Assist in driving a constructive culture and learning environment across the women's and pathways program by providing solid leadership to the playing and coaching groups and encouraging a supportive team environment
Lead and develop the VFLW coaching group, creating clarity, alignment and a strong learning environment
Lead, in collaboration with relevant football staff, the identification, recruitment and retention of players for the VFLW program
Build strong relationships across local and elite talent pathways, including Coates Talent League and community football, to identify emerging talent and support player progression
Work collaboratively with the AFLW program to support alignment in player development, coaching philosophy, football strategy and talent identification
Create an environment that prepares players for progression to AFLW level where appropriate, while building a strong and competitive VFLW program
Research and contribute to opposition analysis
Lead pre-game and post-game reviews and discussions regarding team performance
About you
Demonstrated coaching experience and a strong understanding of contemporary football, including AFL rules and regulations
Proven ability to develop players at different stages of their football journey
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and connection with players, coaches and staff
Demonstrated ability to identify talent and contribute to player recruitment and list management
Strong understanding of the women's football talent pathway and/or demonstrated ability to build relationships across talent and community football
Robust planning, organisation and decision-making skills
Ability to use performance information, including statistical data, physical performance and player wellbeing insights, to inform coaching decisions
Completion (or willingness to undertake) Level 2 coaching course
