Melbourne CBD | 3-Year Contract | Full-Time Onsite

An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced Calibration Officer / Instrumentation Technician to join a specialist technical team within a large Australian Government organisation.

This long-term contract will suit someone with a solid practical background in calibration, metrology, electronics or instrumentation, who enjoys hands‑on technical work within a highly regulated and quality-focused environment.

The Role

Working within a specialist technical laboratory, you will be responsible for the calibration, testing, verification and maintenance of a broad range of instrumentation and equipment.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Undertaking calibration, testing and maintenance of laboratory and field equipment
- Performing acceptance testing and verification of new instrumentation
- Coordinating calibration activities in line with project and operational schedules
- Analysing test and calibration data and investigating technical issues
- Evaluating equipment performance and supporting technical investigations
- Preparing technical reports, procedures and work instructions
- Providing technical advice to project and operational stakeholders
- Supporting continuous improvement of calibration and testing practices
- Contributing to quality management processes aligned with ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025
- Using Microsoft Excel and other systems to analyse and manage technical information
- Supporting the development and testing of computer programs used for technical and operational activities

To be successful, you will ideally have:

- Demonstrated practical experience in calibration, measurement and instrumentation
- Experience with measurement traceability and uncertainty
- A background working with electronic, electrical, mechanical or scientific equipment
- Experience within a calibration, testing, standards or technical laboratory environment
- Strong troubleshooting,



investigation and problem‑solving skills
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 capability
- Experience analysing and documenting technical results
- Strong written communication and technical documentation skills
- Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and/or ISO 9001 environments will be highly regarded
- Experience with instrumentation used in field or operational environments will also be advantageous

The most important technical requirement is practical experience across calibration, traceability and uncertainty.

The Opportunity

This is a three-year contract offering the opportunity to contribute to a significant, long‑term technical program within a large and complex organisation.

The position is based in Melbourne CBD/Docklands and requires five days per week onsite. Typical working hours are approximately 8:30am-5:30pm, with some flexibility subject to operational requirements.
