The National Library welcomes applications from candidates interested in non-ongoing (temporary) employment opportunities.

The Temporary Employment Register allows hiring managers to identify suitable candidates and fill temporary vacancies as they arise throughout the year.

The Temporary Employment Register can be used for non-ongoing (temporary) positions that are short-term or project-based, up to 12 months. Opportunities may be available across APS 2 to APS 6 classifications and Executive Level 1 and 2.

Roles may be full time, part time or casual (intermittent and varied hours) and may call for various skills and areas of expertise, for example:

- Collections Management - preservation, cataloguing, acquisitions, special collections management, curatorship, archivists
- Library Services - reference services, reading room floor, document supply services, collection retrieval, research
- Digital and IT Services - IT support and operations, Trove, digitisation, digital preservation, web development, graphic design
- Corporate services and administration - finance, human resources, executive support, building management, records management




- Exhibitions and Engagement - education, marketing, editorial/publishing, exhibition installation.

- We will only contact you if we have a vacancy that suits your skills and experience.
- Positions offered through the Temporary Employment Register are temporary. You should not expect to gain ongoing employment from the Temporary Employment Register.
- Applicants must be Australian citizens to be eligible for APS employment.

Your application will remain active on the register until 30 June 2027. Before this date, you will be invited to renew your interest in temporary employment opportunities at the Library. Applications do not automatically carry over to the next register period.
