Centre Director – Outside School Hours Care (OSHC)

About the Organisation
We are a community-based, not-for-profit Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) service governed by a parent-led Management Committee. Our service provides high-quality before-school, after-school and vacation care that prioritises the wellbeing, safety and development of children while supporting working families in our local community.
Position Overview The Centre Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management and day-to-day operation of the OSHC service. Reporting directly to the parent-led Management Committee, the Director ensures the service meets all regulatory requirements under the National Quality Framework (NQF), delivers excellent educational and care outcomes, and operates in a financially sustainable and child-centred manner.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Service Quality
- Provide strong educational and operational leadership to the OSHC team.
- Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).
- Ensure the service maintains high standards against the National Quality Standard (NQS) and all relevant legislation.
- Foster a positive, inclusive and team-oriented culture among staff, children, families and the Committee.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations, Working with Children Check requirements, and all workplace health and safety obligations.
- Maintain accurate records, policies and procedures in line with regulatory and Committee requirements.
- Prepare and present regular operational,
quality and compliance reports to the parent-led Management Committee.
- Support the Committee in strategic planning, policy development and service evaluation.
Staff Management
- Recruit, induct, supervise, support and performance-manage educators and staff.
- Roster staff effectively to meet ratio requirements and service needs.
- Promote ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
- Manage staff performance, grievances and industrial relations matters in accordance with relevant awards and legislation.
Educational Program & Practice
- Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of a high-quality, play-based educational program aligned with My Time, Our Place.
- Ensure children’s voices, interests and agency are central to program planning.
- Promote inclusive practices that support children with diverse needs and backgrounds.
Family & Community Engagement
- Build strong, respectful partnerships with families and the parent Committee.
- Communicate effectively with families about children’s experiences, service operations and Committee decisions.
- Represent the service positively within the local community and school partnership.
Financial & Resource Management
- Manage the day-to-day budget in collaboration with the Committee Treasurer.
- Oversee fee collection, government funding claims (e.g. CCS)
and expenditure within approved parameters.
- Ensure efficient use of resources, equipment and the service environment.
- Identify and implement opportunities for service improvement and sustainability.
Essential Requirements
- Current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain).
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership or management role within OSHC, education or a related children’s service.
- Thorough knowledge of the National Quality Framework, National Quality Standard and My Time, Our Place Framework.
- Strong understanding of child safeguarding, risk management and Workplace Health & Safety.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a parent-led Committee and respond to community needs.
- Current First Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis and Asthma management qualifications (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable
- Previous experience reporting to a volunteer parent or community committee.
- Experience managing budgets and government funding in a not-for-profit setting.
- Additional qualifications in leadership, management or education.
Conditions This is a permanent full-time position (or as otherwise negotiated). Employment is under the relevant modern award and subject to satisfactory Working with Children Check, National Police Check and reference checks. The successful candidate will be required to work flexible hours, including school holidays, to meet the operational needs of the service.
The parent-led Management Committee is committed to supporting the Centre Director through clear governance, regular communication and a collaborative working relationship.
