Key Responsibilities
- Initial assessment and triage of walk-in patients to determine priority and urgency of care and management of routine health checks and immunisations of primary care patients.
- Clinical interventions including
- Wound care gluing, suturing, dressings (including burns).
- Management of minor injuries, closed fractures, sprains, simple lacerations.
- Basic fracture management, applying backslabs, plastering.
- Minor procedures, incision and drainage of abscesses,
removal of foreign bodies (ear, nose).
- Administration and care of urinary catheters (male/female).
- IV therapy, cannulation, administration of fluids or antibiotics.
- Support urgent care presentations for
- Respiratory infections, gastroenteritis, UTIs.
- Acute exacerbations of chronic disease (e.g., COPD flare-ups).
- Medication administration and monitoring, including timely delivery of prescribed treatments and safe use of emergency medications.
- Vaccinations (e.g. influenza, tetanus, COVID-19) as part of acute presentations.
- Assisting GPs in escalation protocols for life-threatening conditions with identification, stabilisation, and coordination of transfer to hospital services.
- Collaboration with paramedics, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver culturally competent, integrated care.
- Support for diagnostic testing with ECGs, point-of-care testing (e.g. glucose, pregnancy, RSV, flu/COVID), collecting swabs and pathology samples.
Who We’re Looking For
Essential
- Current AHPRA RN registration
- Experience in general practice, urgent care, or acute settings
- Immunisation certification (or willing to obtain)
- CPR/First Aid, Ochre Card and Police Check
- Robust communication and cultural competency
Desirable
- Experience working in a fast-paced urgent care setting
- Familiarity with health IT systems
- Postgrad study in primary health, urgent care or similar (or willingness to pursue)
