Primary objective

Contribute to the School Operations Barkly team by providing advice and support to the Barkly region’s government schools, staff and community on operational matters including travel, relocation and the management of the Karguru Centre.

Context statement

School Operations provides operational advice and services to government schools,



tailored to their needs and focused on supporting their improvement agenda. School Operations ensures the implementation of NT and Commonwealth Government policies and department strategic priorities in NT Government schools. The position works within a small collaborative team based in Tennant Creek that supports the Barkly region and contributes to the priorities and strategic direction of the Department of

Education and Training across the NT.

Key duties and responsibilities

- Provide administrative support to the School Operations Barkly team including processing of financial transactions,

procurement, records management, mailbox management and frontline customer service.

- Record, process and acquit expenditure using Northern Territory Government systems.
- Quality assure school excursion documentation in accordance with policy requirements including the coordination of correspondence to seek appropriate approvals.
- Provide advice, options, and support to government school staff and Barkly Schools division on travel and relocation matters,

always demonstrating professionalism and cultural awareness and operating within the boundaries of agreed policies and procedures.

- Facilitate relocations working within policies, procedures and delegations,



and liaising with all parties concerned to ensure the relocation occurs with minimal disruption for the employee and school.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of school operations and the agency.

Selection criteria

Essential

- Experience in office procedures and systems including relevant experience in word processing, databases, spreadsheets and computer systems.
- Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the proven ability to be culturally responsive,

discreet and maintain confidentiality.

- Proven high-level organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure, attend to detail, exercise initiative, be responsive to shifting priorities, complete tasks within required timeframes and work in a team workplace with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating official staff travel including the facilitation of approvals, bookings and payments or the demonstrated skills and ability to acquire and apply this knowledge very quickly.
- Familiarity of processes involved with the coordination of uplift of personal effects including household items, vehicles as well as storage through selected provider or the demonstrated skills and ability to acquire and apply this knowledge very quickly.

- Overnight travel may be required by 4WD and/or light aircraft, staying in a range of accommodation.

- The successful applicant must hold a current Working with Children Clearance Notice (Ochre Card) and a current driver’s

licence, or be able to obtain, and be capable of driving a 4WD vehicle.
