Primary objective

Assist with the delivery of patient care under the supervision and direction of nursing staff.

Key duties and responsibilities

- Assist with delivery of patient care, including personal care requirements relating to hygiene, toileting and nutrition.




- supporting the patient to remain safe in their environment; supporting the patient’s positioning, mobilisation and transfers.
- and through close observation minimise the risks of falls or injuries.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
- Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
- Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

- Possess oral and written communication skills which facilitate fulfilment of key responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse multi-disciplinary team including the ability to interact with people from diverse cultures.
- Demonstrated initiative, reliability and punctuality, capacity to maintain confidentiality and to work as an effective team member.
- Demonstrated understanding of hygiene, infection control and WHS principles as they apply in the hospital context.
- Demonstrated capacity to organise and prioritise workloads and to complete delegated tasks and take direction.
- Ability to perform physical tasks and be physically fit to undertake these tasks.
- Preparedness and capacity to work shift work over a seven-day roster.
- Holds or working towards a Certificate III in Aged Care or Health Services Assistance or equivalent. Current first aid or basic life support certificate.
