Mechanical Fitter | Permanent Perth-Based | No FIFO

Location: Naval Base & Hope Valley, Perth WA

Job Type: Full time

Build Your Career. Stay Perth-Based. Do Work That Matters.

Mig-Co Engineering is looking for a skilled and experienced Plant / Mechanical Fitter to join our growing team at Naval Base.

This is an opportunity for a trade-qualified fitter who wants permanent Perth-based employment without the FIFO lifestyle, while still working on technically challenging equipment and projects.

You'll be based primarily in our workshop, with local onsite work in Kwinana supporting one of our valued clients with plant preventative and reactive maintenance. This provides the best of both worlds — the stability of a permanent workshop role with the variety of onsite mechanical work.

If you take pride in your workmanship, enjoy solving mechanical problems and want to build a long-term career with a growing WA engineering company, we'd like to hear from you.

About Us

Mig-Co Engineering is a family-owned and operated WA engineering company, established in 1997.

We specialise in machining, fabrication, mechanical fitting, hydraulic services, component repair and refurbishment, supporting clients across mining, defence, oil & gas, manufacturing and commercial marine.

We're growing, and we're investing in our people, equipment and facilities. A new purpose-built engineering workshop in Hope Valley is also on the horizon, providing increased capacity, expanded capabilities and a modern environment for our team to continue developing and doing great work.

The Role

This is a hands-on Mechanical Fitter position combining workshop-based engineering work with local onsite plant maintenance.

You'll work on a variety of mechanical equipment and components, completing preventative and reactive maintenance, mechanical fitting, assembly, fault finding and repairs.

You'll work both independently and as part of a skilled team, with the opportunity to apply your trade knowledge to different projects rather than being restricted to repetitive maintenance work.

You will be Responsible for:

· Mechanical fitting, assembly, repair and refurbishment of plant and equipment

· Assembling machinery and structural metal components from engineering drawings

· Diagnosing faults, dismantling equipment and replacing worn or defective components

· Alignment of drive shafts, bearings, pulleys, gearboxes and drive systems

· Preventative and reactive maintenance of plant and equipment

· Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation

· Working onsite locally in Kwinana as required

· Supporting apprentice development and mentoring less experienced team members where appropriate

· Maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and quality

· Working collaboratively with the workshop and project teams to complete work scopes efficiently

About You

We're looking for an experienced trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter with plant experience who takes ownership of their work and doesn't compromise on quality.

You will be someone who:

- Has strong mechanical and plant maintenance experience
- Can confidently diagnose faults and solve mechanical problems
- Can work independently and manage allocated work scopes
- Takes pride in precision workmanship and doing the job properly
- Works safely and efficiently
- Can read and interpret engineering drawings
- Communicates well and works positively within a team
- Is reliable, practical and willing to get involved
- Wants a long-term Perth-based career, rather than continuing the FIFO lifestyle

Skills & Requirements

Essential:

- Permanent Australian Citizenship
- Relevant trade qualification, such as Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade
- Demonstrated experience as a Mechanical Fitter, preferably with plant or heavy equipment
- Strong mechanical fitting and fault-finding capability
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems
- Competent use of hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment
- Current C Class WA Driver's Licence
- Own reliable transport
- White Card

- Ability to pass required site medical and drug & alcohol testing
- Ability to meet defence-related screening requirements, including identity, work-rights and criminal-history checks

- Preferred – But Not Essential

- EWP
- Working at Heights
- Forklift Licence
- Hydraulic experience
- Heavy mobile or fixed plant experience
- Experience in mining, marine, defence or heavy engineering environments

Keep your trade interesting.

Our work isn't limited to one type of equipment or one industry. You'll work across mining, defence, manufacturing, marine and other heavy engineering applications, with opportunities involving repairs, refurbishment, maintenance, assembly and new engineering work.

Your experience actually matters.

We're a family-owned business where experienced tradespeople aren't just another number. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with management, contribute ideas, solve problems and influence how we continue to improve the way we work.

Build something for the future.
