Primary objective

Assist in the development, coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, of national and Northern Territory

Vocational Education and Training (VET) skills initiatives.

Context statement The Skills NT division's function is to contribute to a resilient and future-ready workforce across the Territory by overseeing the adult vocational education and training sector in the Northern Territory. The Skills Strategy work unit supports the delivery of a skilled and capable workforce to meet the needs of the Territory’s business community and industries.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Preparation of well written documentation including briefings, reports, ministerial correspondence, submissions and

undertake research as required to provide well informed recommendations.

Review reports and provide input into a range of skills and training policy initiatives aligned with national and Northern

Territory Government priorities.
1. Assist in the development, implementation and management of a range of projects and initiatives that support a skilled

and capable workforce.
1. Monitor and update program policies and contribute to vocational education and training policy planning and

development.
1. Build and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders across industry, government,

training organisations and relevant stakeholders at local and national levels.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Proven written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and represent the Northern

Territory in both local and national forums.
1. Demonstrated experience in policy planning and development, and project management, including the ability to evaluate

progress and report on outcomes.
- Proven ability to undertake research, review reports and provide clear and considered policy advice that considers the political and social environment of the VET sector.
- Proven ability to think conceptually, apply analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- High level organisation skills, self-motivated and proven experience working in a high demand sensitive setting subject to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated capability in cultivating productive working relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders and clients.

Desirable

1. Knowledge of issues and trends relevant to the Northern Territory and Australian VET system.
2. Qualifications in public policy or other relevant disciplines is highly desirable.
