The Human T-Cell Laboratory The Human T-cell Laboratory conducts cutting-edge research within SVI's Immunology of Diabetes Unit. The focus of the lab's research is to understand why the insulin-producing cells are attacked by the body's immune system's T cells, to measure the autoimmune responses, and explore ways to prevent these responses from developing.
The Role The Human T-cell Laboratory are recruiting a postdoctoral Research Scientist with the skills, experience, and expertise to contribute to our understanding of the autoimmune basis of type 1 diabetes and other autoimmune diseases (SLE and MS). The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for driving one or more projects investigating human T and/or B cell responses to autoantigens (PMID:39554513, 36619657, 33524197, 30275329, 26912858 and 25157096) and/or developing and improving our whole blood-based assays for measuring autoantigen specific T-cell responses (PMID 40106580, 31221801, 37346035 and 40149920).
This typically involves:
- Investigating the chemical structure and function of relevant proteins through the production, purification and analysis of recombinant proteins
- Designing, conducting, and troubleshooting experiments to identify, isolate and analyse antigen specific T and/or B cells.
- Designing, conducting, and troubleshooting single-cell sequencing experiments, including data analysis.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate laboratory records of experimental procedures and results (LabArchives).
- Preparing findings for publication and presenting research at laboratory meetings and scientific conferences.
- Supervising and training of students and other laboratory members.
Please refer to the attached Position Description for a fuller description of the key responsibilities. Who we are seeking The ideal candidate for the role will have:
- An AQF PhD in a relevant life science discipline, with a preference for Immunology, Biochemistry or closely related field.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design, conduct and manage experimental research.
- Demonstrated track record of producing research publications based on their own experimental work.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
- Knowledge of human immunology,
particularly the analysis of T and B cell responses.
- Knowledge or experience relevant to autoimmune disease research, particularly type 1 diabetes.
- Experience in the isolation and analysis of human beta-cell antigen specific T cells.
- Experience expressing cytokine receptors and analysing their biochemical properties.
- Experience analysing single-cell gene sequencing data.
To be considered for the role, you must have permanent working rights in Australia and be available to work full time for the duration of the appointment. The successful candidate will also be required to undergo a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check prior to commencement. Salary: $98,381-$105,506 per annum (full-time) plus 12% superannuation. Salary applied will be dependent upon successful candidates' current level, experience and qualifications). In addition to your base salary, we offer up to $15,900 FBT exempt salary packaging and up to $2,650 FBT exempt meals and entertainment packaging.
