Position Information

Cooranbong Public School is located on the traditional lands of the Awabakal people by Lake Macquarie. The school population includes 330 students, with 20% identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and several EAL/D learners. The school has 14 mainstream classes and a Multi-Categorical support class, reflecting commitment to inclusive education. The core values of the school include—Respect, Safety, and Engagement—guide a positive learning environment. As part of the Western Shores Learning Alliance, Cooranbong collaborates with local early education centres, Morisset High School and the local AECG to support smooth educational pathways. The school has a positive and active Parents and Citizens Association.

Cooranbong Public School prioritises equity and student growth, aiming to give every child a robust educational start through quality leadership and teaching. Selection Criteria

Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a high-performing school. Proven track record of using student data and assessment results to inform teaching practices, monitor progress, and drive continuous whole-school improvement.
2. Demonstrated capacity to lead significant organisational change and manage substantial school growth, including strategically planning and preparing the school community for transition to a new, much larger site while ensuring continuity of learning, wellbeing, and community confidence.
3.



Demonstrated capacity to lead an inclusive school culture that recognises and responds to the diverse academic, social, emotional, cultural and additional learning needs of students, while maintaining high expectations and equal opportunities for every student.
4. Demonstrated capacity to build authentic and sustained partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, families, community and the AECG to lead culturally responsive practices and strengthen Aboriginal education, identity, engagement and outcomes.

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P2 for 2026.
