Second Act Arts Inc
Perth, WA | Casual, project-based position
$45 per hour + superannuation
Flexible schedule | September 2026 – May 2027
Second Act Arts Inc is seeking an organised, capable and proactive Production Support Officer to work across Chronicle, a new community storytelling project being delivered across Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
About Chronicle
Chronicle is a community storytelling project built on a simple idea: No such thing as an ordinary life.
We invite people to share the experiences, memories and knowledge that have shaped them. Selected stories are explored through interviews and brought to life at local events by professional performers, before becoming part of a lasting published and archival record.
Chronicle is produced by Second Act Arts Inc, a Western Australian not-for-profit arts organisation, with projects being delivered in partnership with local governments and funding partners across Australia.
The role
Working directly with Chronicle’s Artistic Director, you’ll provide practical production and administrative support across multiple Chronicle projects from September 2026 to May 2027.
This is a casual, project-based role with flexible and variable hours. There is no fixed number of hours each week, as the workload will change significantly depending on where we are in the production cycle.
As a guide, a quieter week might involve around 3–5 hours, while busy production and event weeks may require around 15–25 hours. Hours will be agreed in advance with the Artistic Director according to the needs of the project.
The initial position runs through to May 2027. There is potential for the role to be extended or develop into a more substantial position as Chronicle grows and further projects and funding are confirmed.
What you’ll do The Production Support Officer will help keep the practical machinery of Chronicle running. Your work may include:
- coordinating venue bookings, access arrangements and venue requirements
- sourcing quotes and organising lighting, sound, projection and other equipment
- coordinating equipment collection, delivery and return
- maintaining production schedules, calendars, checklists and run sheets
- arranging auditions, participant interviews, rehearsals and cast calls
- communicating practical information and confirmations to performers and participants
- coordinating flights, accommodation, transport and itineraries for regional and interstate events
- liaising with venues, suppliers, councils and project partners
- coordinating front-of-house, bar and volunteer requirements
- distributing publicity materials and following up publicity with councils and project partners
- preparing production information, schedules and packs for live events
- maintaining contact lists, trackers and production records
- keeping track of deadlines, confirmations and outstanding actions
- troubleshooting practical issues as they arise across a busy multi-location project.
Who we’re looking for We’re looking for someone who is:
Highly organised — you can keep multiple moving pieces straight and stay on top of what needs to happen next.
Proactive — you don’t need to be reminded to follow up a venue,
chase a quote or confirm an arrangement.
Independent — you’re comfortable being given an outcome and taking responsibility for the practical steps needed to get there.
A strong communicator — you can communicate warmly and professionally with community participants, performers, councils, venues, suppliers and project partners.
Calm under pressure — live events inevitably produce surprises, and you’re able to respond practically when plans change.
Comfortable with variable hours — you understand that project-based arts work can move between quieter periods and intensive production and event weeks.
Experience in arts administration, theatre, festivals, events, production, community arts or project coordination would be particularly useful, although we’re interested in the right combination of skills, experience and approach rather than a particular career path.
The successful applicant will need to be based in Perth and available for some evening and weekend work around Chronicle events.
There may also be opportunities for regional and interstate travel, with approved travel and accommodation provided separately.
