Project Manager (Construction) – Hyperscale Data Centre
Location: Kurri Kurri, NSW 2327 Contract: Initial 6-month contract, with strong potential for a further 6+ month extension
Rate: $900–$1,000 per day, dependent on experience
Work arrangement: Full-time, site-based
MMD Recruitment is seeking an experienced Project Manager (Construction) to lead the client-side delivery of a major hyperscale data centre development in Kurri Kurri, NSW.
This is a high-profile, mission-critical construction role suited to a proven Project Manager with strong building-construction and client-side delivery experience. You will oversee the project from pre-construction through construction, commissioning, practical completion and handover, working closely with the client, design consultants, head contractor, subcontractors, suppliers and key authorities.
The role requires a commercially astute and delivery-focused professional who is comfortable operating in a complex, fast-paced construction environment, managing programme, cost, quality, risk, safety and stakeholder outcomes.
The opportunity
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of a hyperscale data centre construction project.
- Represent the client’s interests across construction, commercial, programme, quality and risk matters.
- Work on a complex, mission-critical development with significant stakeholder coordination requirements.
- Join an initial six-month contract, with the likelihood of an extension for a further six months or more.
- Earn a competitive daily rate of $900–$1,000 per day, depending on relevant experience.
- Be based full-time on site in Kurri Kurri, NSW.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage all construction-phase activities on behalf of the client.
- Develop, maintain and monitor detailed project plans, construction programmes, milestones, budgets and reporting frameworks.
- Coordinate the delivery team, including head contractor, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers and specialist service providers.
- Manage contractor performance against programme, cost, quality, safety and contractual obligations.
- Review construction methodologies, sequencing, procurement plans, design interfaces and project delivery strategies.
- Monitor project progress against key milestones and identify potential delays, risks, cost exposures and programme impacts.
- Drive practical solutions to construction issues,
coordination challenges, design changes and site constraints.
- Manage project governance, including progress reporting, meeting structures, action registers, risk registers and decision logs.
- Ensure robust cost control, expenditure tracking, forecasting, variation assessment and commercial reporting.
- Review and manage contractor claims, variations, extension-of-time matters and change-control processes.
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality reviews to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, Australian Standards, building codes and contractual requirements.
- Ensure all works are undertaken in accordance with HSE legislation, site requirements and zero-harm expectations.
- Manage stakeholder communication with the client, project team, government bodies, utility providers and other external parties.
- Support commissioning, testing, practical completion, defects management and final handover activities.
About you
To be successful, you will bring strong construction project-management experience gained on major building, industrial, infrastructure, mission-critical or technically complex projects.
You will ideally have
- A degree qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building, Project Management or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5–7 years’ Project Management experience within the construction sector.
- Demonstrated building-construction experience on large-scale, complex or high-value projects.
- Essential client-side Project Management experience, representing an owner, developer, asset owner, delivery partner or project management consultancy.
- Proven experience managing head contractors, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and specialist trades.
- Experience working with or managing GC / general contractor delivery models.
- Solid knowledge of construction methodology, design coordination, procurement, programme management, cost control and contract administration.
- A sound understanding of Australian building codes, Australian Standards, construction legislation and HSE requirements.
- Proven capability in project planning, scheduling, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and risk management.
- Strong commercial awareness, including variation management, claims assessment, cost reporting and financial control.
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder-management capability.
- The ability to make practical, well-considered decisions in a demanding and time-critical project environment.
- Proficiency with project management systems, scheduling tools and digital reporting platforms.
Highly regarded experience
The following experience will be highly regarded:
- Hyperscale, colocation or enterprise data centre project experience.
- Mission-critical construction experience, including facilities with high-availability, resilience, redundancy and commissioning requirements.
- Exposure to critical-services packages, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire, controls, BMS, backup power or specialist infrastructure.
- Experience delivering industrial, advanced manufacturing, logistics, health, defence, energy or other technically complex developments.
- Experience with BIM, digital engineering tools and document-control systems.
- PMP, AIPM, RICS or other relevant project-management certification.
