Irregular and Intermittent Employees (IIEs/Casual) are employed with the Australian Border Force (ABF) at the APS2 classification and assist frontline operational teams to meet peaks associated with the movement of people and goods across the border.
IIEs are predominantly required to work at international airports to alleviate pressure on existing teams during periods of increased flight departures and arrivals. They are also utilised to work in teams dealing with Maritime, Air Cargo, as well as general administration areas. The work undertaken is mainly outside of standard business hours as the ABF operates within a 24/7 operational environment.
Roles at international airports may require the successful completion of on-site mandatory training prior to undertaking duties.
Our ideal candidate The ABF is currently looking for flexible, adaptable, and reliable people to undertake work on a casual basis at the APS 2 classification. Skills we need include:
- Organised
- Strong Communicator
- Client Service capabilities
- Adapt to situations to successfully resolve conflict
- Emotional intelligence.
- Provide basic administration support under guidance
- Operate basic information technology systems
- Develop and maintain effective and productive working relationships/partnerships

These roles are frontline roles which require officers to wear the ABF uniform and represent the ABF professionally in the public domain. Officers must be capable of interacting with members of the community and foreign visitors.
In the ABF we are looking for Officers who can:

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
