Primary objective

Provide meals to all students at Lajamanu School to promote school attendance, engagement, health and well being. Manage the School

Nutrition Program operation in accordance with the Commonwealth Government funding body grants schedule, guidelines and standards.

Manage School Nutrition Program staff. Mentor and encourage employment of local Aboriginal staff in the program. Provide computer-

based performance reporting against key progress indicators to the Grant Providers.

Context statement





Lajamanu School is responsible for providing education to approximately 200 to 300 Aboriginal students from Preschool to Year 12 in a remote Aboriginal community under the direction of the NT Department of Education. A primary focus is to improve the attendance and engagement of students.

The School Nutrition

Program aims to increase attendance by offering meals at school as an incentive for students to attend and engage in school every day. The program also provides nutritious meals to promote student health and well being.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Oversee the provision of nutritious breakfasts, lunches and fruit for up to 200 students per school day in accordance with the

NT Government Education Department policy on Canteen, Nutrition and Healthy Eating.
- Maintain and oversee implementation of standards of hygiene and occupational health and safety in accordance with NT Department of Health, Environmental Heath Branch, as a registered food business.
- Mentor local Aboriginal staff and encourage the employment of local Aboriginal people in the program.
- Plan, schedule and supervise all aspects of food ordering and preparation.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Sound level of written, oral and digital communication skills.
2. Ability to manage staff and mentor employees.
3. Demonstrated ability to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
4. Proven high level of focus on customer service delivery with a friendly demeanour.
5. Proven ability to plan and oversee the preparation of meals for large groups of clients in accordance with Food Safety and Handling

requirements and guidelines.
- Understanding and ability to relate to a primary clientele of school children within a remote Aboriginal cultural setting.
- Demonstrated confidence to address and communicate workplace expectations and attendance.
- Hold a NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).

Desirable

1. Experience of living and working in a remote Aboriginal Community.
2. NT motor vehicle drivers’ licence.
3. Senior First Aid Certificate.
4. Health and Safety training certificate.
5. Certificate level qualifications in food or business.
