Senior Coalition Services Engineer – Battle Lab
Rate Guide
- $1,200–$1,400 per day, inclusive of superannuation
- Final rate will depend on directly relevant Defence experience, technical capability and current security clearance

- Some interstate and international travel may be required
Duration
- 12 October 2026 to 31 October 2027
- Up to 244 working days
- Potential for two additional 12-month extensions
- Three-month probation period applies

- Occasional reverse-hours support may be required for international partners, Coalition activities and exercises
Clearance
- Must hold a minimum of NV2 security clearance

Working Arrangements
- Primarily onsite at the Symonston facility
- Remote working arrangements are not available
- Interstate candidates must confirm their willingness to relocate or work onsite in Canberra
- The role may require attendance at interstate or international working groups, field trials and exercises
Role Overview
- Provide senior, hands-on engineering support across complex and interconnected mission systems
- Support systems used for integration, experimentation, testing and validation activities
- Maintain alignment across applications, information systems, networks, infrastructure and mission command capabilities
- Apply systems and software engineering practices across requirements, interfaces, configuration, integration testing, verification and validation
- Support integration across Australian, Joint and Coalition systems and networks
- Maintain system design, architecture, configuration, interface and dependency documentation
- Assess the impact of technical changes across interconnected systems and security boundaries
- Provide authoritative technical advice to government, military, project, security and ICT stakeholders
- Identify and resolve complex system integration, interoperability and configuration issues
- Contribute to the development of a digitally integrated and future-ready operational environment
- Work independently as the nominated individual within a small specialist team
Essential Requirements
- Demonstrated experience engineering and integrating complex ICT systems
- Strong experience in systems and software engineering practices
- Experience across requirements analysis, interface management and configuration control
- Experience with integration testing, verification, validation and technical remediation
- Experience integrating and sustaining complex enterprise applications and information-system environments
- Experience integrating applications, data services, end-user environments and supporting infrastructure
- Demonstrated ability to implement, assess and maintain controls aligned with the Information Security Manual and Essential Eight
- Strong knowledge of LAN and WAN engineering principles
- Strong understanding of IP addressing, routing, DNS, DHCP and network segmentation
- Ability to assess how network components affect system interoperability, performance and security
- Experience resolving complex technical integration and interoperability issues
- Experience maintaining authoritative system designs, architecture documentation and configuration records
- Experience supporting technical integration testing, Test and Evaluation activities or risk-reduction events
- Ability to provide authoritative engineering advice with minimal oversight
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical teams, project personnel, security authorities and capability representatives
- Ability to produce clear technical reports,
assessments, findings and recommendations
- Ability to comply with applicable ITAR requirements
- Australian citizenship
- Ability to work onsite in Symonston
- Minimum NV2 clearance
Desirable Requirements
- Postgraduate qualifications or formal training in Systems Engineering
- Equivalent experience applying systems engineering methods in complex environments
- Experience with deployable LANs or comparable tactical network environments
- Experience working at a system-of-systems level
- Experience with Joint, Coalition, FVEY or mission systems
- Experience in Defence capability development, integration, experimentation or Test and Evaluation environments
- Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP
- Experience with identity, directory and access-control services
- Experience with federation, authentication, trust services and Public Key Infrastructure
- Experience designing or managing Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 environments
- Experience with Standard Operating Environment design, configuration and management
- Experience using PowerShell, Bash, Ansible or equivalent scripting and automation technologies
- Software development or systems integration experience
- Experience with XMPP chat, mail relay or proxy services
- Experience with Mobile Device Management and end-user device configuration
- Experience with application or binary allowlisting
- Experience developing or interpreting architecture artefacts, interface control documents and design descriptions
- Experience managing hardware and software baselines, version control and documentation control
- Experience developing technical procedures, test documentation or evaluation artefacts
- Experience mentoring personnel and delivering just-in-time technical training
- Understanding of Coalition networking instructions, NETOPS artefacts or Joining, Membership and Exiting Instructions
- Understanding of FVEY networks, systems and operating processes
